VHT Valvulator / effects for AD 30

Has anyone used one of these devices (VHT Valvulator) in front of their AD 30? I've read a few comments a while back from some who used effects and had mentioned that the VHT seems to eliminate noise from effects. Since the newer AD 30 has no effects send/return, the only way to add some colorization is by using effects through the front, which adds noise.
Anything else on the market that can improve the signal or silence effects....or perhaps an effects unit that is noiseless to begin with? Let me know...I'd appreciate it.
