what type of picks
Moderator: bclaire
do you use
i found that i like the Dunlop .46 nylon but these seem to slip, so latley iv been using Snarling Dog Brain Picks, the .53's, these have a much better grip, they sort of feel like a cats tongue.
the only problem with these is the price, this company should loose the fancy metal case they come in and knock the price down a bit.

I've stuck with Gibson mediums on electric guitar, just the ordinary shape ones. Thin enough to strum without breaking anything, and thick enough to solo. Pretty happy with them, so i've just got a big bag and use them.
Jim Dunlop nylon 0.5mm picks for acoustic guitar. Nice soft plastic, and flexible, so they don't chirp off the strings, and are light enough so that I can strum.
They're both cheap and commonly available... no snake oil here! Oh, aside from a Kenyan half shilling that was blessed by a bishop and made from meteor iron which transforms me into the incarnation of Clapton, Hendrix, Trower, Satch and Cliff Richard (damn that bishop's blessing!) when I use it.

i like em quite stiff, ranging from the 1mm black dunlop, the blue dunlop, a jazz3 dunlop and a brass pick i use when im using my treble booster!..
the brass pick ads a lot of low end thunk!
turns out its a dunlop one too!

I use heavy picks to get the tone I want. I currently use the Jim Dunlop JazzIII XL's

Paint it blue 4 soul.
DUNLOP JAZZ III'S ALL THE WAY!!!
Actually, they just started making an Eric Johnson custom version of the picks that are based on an old version of the Jazz III thats even better in my opinion.
Jazz IIIs seem a lot more precise to me than any other picks and more of an extension of my fingers rather than a guitar pick.
They also seem to have less of that "clicking sound" that picks make when you pluck the strings. MORE NOTE LESS PICK!

there is something great about those Jazz III picks, they're really precise, feels like playing the guitar with a laser beam
John Petrucci is an avid user of those, if that gives you any draw towards them.
