Hey hey, I am the lead guitarist for an all-girl metal band. I am planning on going Orange and am wondering what size amp I should get. I don't want more power than I need but I want enough so as to not be frustrated. We mainly play small venues but we have a hard hitting drummer and I need my leads to stand out.

Is a 30 watt tube combo or half-stack powerful enough for small clubs? IF I go 50 watt, will I still be able to push it hard enough to get that Orange sound without it being too loud? I play a Gibson SG. ANy feedback helps.8)

First of I think an all girl metal band is awesome.

And +1 on the rocker 30. You might want to run a boost in front of it to get metal.

Thanks! I thought so but I wanted to hear from some Orange users!

I plan on getting one in about a month and I can't wait!

The Rocker 30 should do it...but if it were me, I'd go for the 50, but then again...I've been known to be a bit superfluous concerning wattage.
Welcome!

R30 all the way. You'll love it, light and portable (well, it's no Roland Cube, but it's still very mobile) and it gets plenty loud.

For metal?

RV50.

The R30 is rock and roll in a box... but it ain't no metal amp.

So far as volume goes, there isn't much difference between the R30 and RV50... the RV50 just sounds bigger, less compressed and will put out a bit extra bottom end. Plus it has reverb, an FX loop, a clean channel that actually sounds somewhat clean at gig volumes, and a ton more gain.

Welcome to the forum! The Orange Rocker 30 would be plenty loud, have good distortion and be easily portable.

If you had the funds for a Thunderverb 50 you would be in Metal Heaven.

welcome Kat-

if you're playing metal, is the rocker 30 going to give you the tone you want (i.e. enough gain)?

the 2 orange 50 watts i've tried- the RV50 and the TH50- both can get a pretty good gain tone at small club levels- depending on our definition of small. the rv has great preamp distortion, and so does the th- the latter has an attenuator though also, so you can get also get power tube distortion at low volumes.

they're both significantly more expensive, but might suit you better.

how bound to the idea of a combo are you? what about a "1/4" stack- head with 212, that is?

The wattage on the Orange amp is under-rated. Wait that came out not quite right.

The amps are much louder than their wattage rating would indicate.
