Marshall Vs Orange
Moderator: bclaire
I'd look into a 5150 with an Orange 412. Just make sure you don't vibrate off stage due to the amount of low end in that rig[:p]

hmmm,
yeah,
yeah jim root uses oranges, and mick thomson uses Rivera KR7 (signature)
i want lots of gain, without using a dirt pedal or having to sacrifice the amps tone, and switching between scooped mids and pushed mids,
and does anybody know how loud are the rocker 50h's?
would they do me in a loud band situation?

I can't imagine any band situation where 50 tube watts would 'not be enough' [:o]

I think you'll be looking for a Thunderverb then. Because you have ample gain on both channels, and on one channel you can scoop the mids, while on the other, you can boost 'em. normally the 50 would do fine, except for severe drop tunings. Then you might want the 200.
Rockerverb has more gain on tap,though....

Yep, a TV50 might be an option.
So would a 5150 with a pedal to whack up the mids, or cut them.

hmm, i spose
its price aswell, here in australia, the Thunderverbs are $3000+ which is too much,
the Rockerverb 50h's $2400 which is still expensive but mmm
i play in C so the tunings not tooo severe i spose, :/
i heard the thunderverbs better for old skool metal wheras the rockerverbs better for nu-metal, apprently

You're better off with the Rockerverb since it has tons more gain on tap. Try to ignore folks that say the RV's don't do metal well. I've owned both heads and I wouldn't hesitate to say that the RV blows away the JCM 800 for metal - that's why I sold the 800 and now use the RV exclusively. Go on YouTube and listen to The Sword. If that's not metal I don't know what is - they play RV's. Also, I'm sick to death of hearing how the crappy Mesa 'Stool Rectifier' is some great metal amp - YUCK. The best advice you'll ever get is stop asking others and just play every head you're interested in - it's the only way you'll know what's right for you. Opinions are great - but YOURS is the only one that counts here. peace

Jim uses two RK100's into two 412's for Stone Sour and Slipknot. He has one stack on stage and the other is firing in a mic'd iso cab backstage.
The transformer design and output voltage swing of a RK100 allows for a bit more bottom end, which is well suited for heavy guitars.
The TV200 is also great for really loud bands and has the most low end capability of all the Orange guitar amps.
But the best advice here, is that you should really try all of your options and go with the one that works best for you!
