hey so the LAPD has explained to me that i play my music too loud. three times.

i have no clue how to soundproof, and i probably don't have the cash because i'm sure its expensive.

anyone have any luck with cheap soundproofing?

Buy a pignose :).

Seriously, baffles are pricey. Maybe you can hang rugs up everywhere? Guys?

my friend soundproofed his room. he used a fuzzy carpet material and just covered the walls. it looked really nice too. but i am no help as to what the carpet stuff was. but maybe you should go out and find some nice carpet and line your walls with it.

Make sure it's a "rough" surfact. Shag carpeting is good.

Soundproofing is a SOB.

I'd say look into playing your music softer. Soundproofing can take a ton of money and still not do it all so well. It's better to not deal with as much sound to start with, much cheaper. You can't turn it down a bit? Or do you have what I have: anal-retentive neighbors?

If you want a room that's significantly quieter, there's no cheap way to do it. Sound is like water--it finds the "low spots" and comes rushing out. So you have to try to eliminate all the ways that the sound can get out of the room. This is never cheap.

Sure you can do stuff like nailing egg crates or carpet up on the walls and ceiling (and floor) may help a little, but that won't have much of a soundproofing effect, unless you can do layer upon layer upon layer (it'll cut down on reflections within the room though)...and even then...this kind of thing won't necessarily keep the sound from traveling out of the room.

Something's better than nothing, I suspose...but is it enough better? I'm sure the cops will let you know if it isn't...

don't let these idiots tell you to 'turn it down', or 'play softer' - pussies! - you probably heard that enough from your parents

this will help:

Sounds like the neighbors ain't digging your tone too much.Maybe buy a Blackheart Little Giant, or an Orange AD5.That or get a Mesa V twin pedal and use headphones. It's either that or TURN THAT F"IN AMP DOWN...[:0]:D

Hmm thats a bad situation. Whenever we can't use the studio we just go to one of our houses and the drummer uses brushes and we all turn down. I find it really helps sometimes as it allows you all to hear everything better and make sure you're tight. Of course you can't really rock out but hey, compromise. Isn't there a practice room nearby that you could rent for a few hours a week or whatever?

Fill your walls with water ;)

If it can stop a bullet, it can stop sound!

I would also suggest against egg cartons, your home insurance company won't like it too much if your house burns down.

can't soundproof properly w/o building a floating room inside a room.
It's unlikely your drummer can play softer (bloody leadfoot drummers).
Playing w/ brushes helps, but sounds like you've gotta find yourself a JAM SPACE :(
