I'm putting together a cover band, and would like some of your ideas for cool songs to cover. Ideally, these songs would be rock tracks from the last 15 years that would make college-age people say, "I love this song! I used to listen to it in high school, but they don't ever play it on the radio anymore." or "Oh, I remember that one. What ever happened to that band?" I want to highlight the songs that cool people in their 20s know all the words to, but haven't heard in years. I've already got some ideas, but would like to know what songs you all think deserve another play. One-hit wonders, oddballs, all honest suggestions are welcome! I'm bringin' 'em back!
I used to have more Orange stuff. Now I just have a PPC412 (black), and a Micro Crush.

pavement, satellite heart-clouds era flaming lips, early spoon, dinojr, neutral milk hotel, mbv, bends-okcomp radiohead...
maybe this music shoots far past the range of what 'college age' cats are listening to now. i guess you should probably stick to blink covers (no dis, tim) and some marcy playground or something.

Blink 182? I'd have to pick something off of an album before Enema of the State. I've already picked "she don't use jelly," and some early Radiohead tunes. Maybe I ought to have been a bit more clear on the kind of thing I was looking for. So far, I've come up with a bunch of other songs including: Nada Surf, K's Choice, Butthole Surfers, old Smashing Pumpkins, Meat Pupets, Eels, Nirvana (not "Smells like Teen Spirit!" ... maybe "love buzz" or a lesser-known one) Everclear, Lit, Eve 6, Bush, the Wannadies, Marvelous 3, Garbage, the Cranberries, Veruca Salt, Toadies, HUM, Marcy Playground, Better than Ezra, Silverchair, ... et cetera. You see, around here, almost all the cover bands only cover songs from before I was born. (1983) AC-DC's "Back in Black" is about as far forward as anybody seems to be willing to go. Also, the bands that do covers of more recent songs just cover country songs from the past few years. I've made it my mission to change that.

+1 for Third Eye Blind and Gin Blossoms.
Cake, Counting Crows, Collective Soul, Candlebox (all unintentionally beginning with "C"), Faith No More, Presidents Of The United States Of America, Tonic, Seven Mary Three, Cracker, Live, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, The Verve, The Verve Pipe.
There are a ton of bands to choose from. Have fun!

+1 on Third Eye Blind - Semi Charmed Kind of Life,
Weezer - Sweater Song,
Blink182 - What's My Age Again,
Gin Blossoms - Till I Hear It From You
Consider these to the list as well:
Better than Ezra - Desperately Wanting
Spin Doctors - Two Princes
Semisonic - Closing Time
Do yourself a favor and avoid: Nirvana, Hootie & The Blowfish (too many haters out there, still), Creed
Those are some suggestions off the top of my head.
Good luck,

Fender MIA Strat with: KTS Titanium saddles, Fralin Blues Specials and Unbucker.
Orange AD30 --> stacked PPC112 (1 V30, 1H30)
Fender Blues Deluxe (modded JJ6V6s) + Extn Cab.
Cake would be awesome but most bands don't have trumpet players.
Pearl Jam is a toughy, just like Nirvana because so many people are picky about the vocals not sounding original.
And for whatever reason, it has been my experience that people consider Pearl Jam and Nirvana to be gods... Don't know why.
Nevertheless those people are always the one's shouting in the crowd about stupid this and you guys suck...
+1 on Live, Tonic, The Verve Pipe, and Sum 41.
Also an old Green Day song may be obligatory.
