Anyone here own a Custom Shop Retro 50 or AD 50?
If so, where was it purchased? With prices of everything going through the roof these days, I'm very near "pulling the trigger" on a Custom Shop Orange if I can find one in stock in the U.S. How's the build quality of these C.S. Orange amps?
Thanks in advance.

There are a couple of happy owners here, who will no doubt turn up. But I can say this much: The build quality of those Custom Shop amps is as good as you'll get anywhere! Those are TOP quality amps.

I hope so. What I'm reading here about the Rockerverb models is disturbing. I was interested in the Rockerverb 100 but not any longer. For the $$, I'd prefer the C.S. model I think.

Well, check them out for yourself:

Scroll down on the left to the AD50 models near the bottom. Then check out the pics of their guts...

There seem to be issues with build quality manifesting in reverb/buzz/hum problems from what I've read here.

It could be... on the other hand, that's only been from 2 or 3 guys, and bear in mind that unless they were already part of the little Orange forum family, the only reason they were likely to check in here would be to ask for advice. Think it was the guys at Humbucker who said the rate of problems reported on Orange amps they sell are less than the Fenders, Vox etc.

The 2nd reason being that I reckon a lot are damaged in transit. I'm not a big fan of having amps shipped around the place. I'd prefer to collect it from a dealer. That way the Useless Package Scrunchers (UPS), or Drop-it, Hide-it, Lose-it (DHL) boys can't mess it up for you.

Moral of the story? Maybe go try a Rockerverb in store, and if you like it, and it appears to be fine when cranked etc, then go for it. If you do go for a custom shop model, then make sure it's shipped really carefully, or collect yourself.

Also be wary of fedex as they subcontract all their ground shipping to another company that is much less efficient than them. I learned that one the hard way!

+1

Impeccable build quality. I think I see a little Hiwatt influence and a little Vox or may Matchless influence in there as well as some pretty original layout ideas. Hats off to Adrian, or whoever puts those things together.

One thing I am curious about though...is if the AD-140 custom shop uses the same transformers as the Twin Channel. I'm assuming yes, but you never know.

I think I'd rather drive to Humbucker Music & get it than chance shipping it. They're a day away but it's *more* than worth it.

Yes- I picked up my Orange from www.musicbrokers.com

Great guys over there, although it is a music store/pawn shop!

(maybe that's why I haven't had any trouble-picking it up and all...)

Well, it already had to get over the pond somehow. That most likey entailed being packed in a huge crate with a bunch of other Oranges, being lifted up onto a truck, driven to a loading dock, hoisted by a crane into a storage warehouse, sitting in the cold, hoisted up again and put on a big huge boat, floated across the ocean to another loading dock, thrown on a truck at some point, delivered to either Orange in Atlanta or a music store somewhere, grabbed off the truck, and brought into a stock room.

One more trip on a few trucks hopefully won't make a huge difference Though i'm a firm believer in playing the exact amp you're going to pay money for, whenever possible.
