Having a hard time choosing...

I have used the Orange Ad30 HTC and instantly fell in love with it. My major problem is wether it will be loud enough. I am think that the Orange AD140 TC is the right head for me, but I am still not sure. I have heard people say that at times the AD30 isn't loud enough (especially for hard hitting drummers). My drummer is a hard hitter.

I relize the ad140 tc is loud, but is it too loud?

the band i used to be had a very hard hitting drummer, and the guitar player used a 55watt mesa nomad 4x10 combo. it was class a/b i think so it should be comparable to a class A 30 watts. anyway, his mesa was more than enough to overcome the drummer.

The AD30 should easily be loud enough for a hard hitting drummer.
Never had a problem, and have never fully cranked mine yet!
I usually have to turn down to everyone else.

Second thing is...
Will this be loud enough for clubs and such? My band has opened for very large christian band named "switchfoot." Would this amp be loud enough for that kind of a atmosphere? I relize they mic up the amps, but still will it satisfy my needs?

hi there

i have an ad30r and i have no problem getting the volume i need. with both volumes on around half way i get a great sound and the volume is perfect. the biggest venue i have played with this rig was a 600 seater . . . i cranked it up and it rocked. if i knew i was going to be consistently playing venues bigger than this i would probably go for the ad140 as i could get away with pumping the bigger volume. i wouldn't get the chance to really open that sucker up though (not yet!). i also play in a christian band - rock on bro!

I have an AD140TC. I play guitar in a 3 piece band...I have the AD140TC teamed up w/ a 4X12 Orange cabinet. I have a Rolls A-B-Y so I can split my guitar signal into 2 paths. The other half runs to a MESA Dual Recto half stack. For practice, my volumes are on 9:00 on each. For small clubs, 12:00 on the AD140TC and 10:00 on MESA. I primarily use the Orange for basic rhythm and the MESA as a void filler. Truly the AD140TC is extremely loud at full volume, but it delivers all the tone you could ask for at half volume, without jarring your guts loose.

I was having a hard time deciding between the 30W and the 140W at first. The 140W is definately the way to go...killer tone at low and high volume. Plus you have the extra punch if you play at an outdoor event.<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hi. I am also playing a Mesa half stack and i am also using a ABY box. Right now i have a Marshall halfstack, but i wanted to switch for a Orange top. So my question is: do those amps fit good together???

The music which i play is some sort od Heavy Rock n Roll....

What would you say??

Anytime you are thinking about pairing an Orange amp with another amp, be wary. Plug into your Orange- get that beautiful Orange sound you love- now back off on the guitar's volume- see how it cleans up nicely while retaining that full sound? Now try that with your other amp.... my guess is it won't be the same. If you're planning on running them at the same time, keep in mind that as you adjust your guitar volume, your amps won't be the same volume unless they're at full-out guitar volume. If you're the kind of player that doesn't need a volume knob, hey, go for it! But otherwise, you'll be a soundman's nightmare when he can't get the balance between the amps right. I tried running my Marshall's side by side with my Oranges and the Marshalls just don't have the touch that the Oranges do- I think the only other amp out there that does is probably the Matchless. Full-out together though, with a touch of stereo reverb/delay and it was an amazing sound....

I have both the AD30TC and an AD140TC half stack- they are both loud- and you have to start thinking about hearing loss at some point. I have a Marshall speaker emulator that I run with my 140 head just to knock the volume down. And as well as the masters are on the 140's, the amps sound best when pushed... the emulator is a fantastic piece of gear to go with the head... Billy

Loud enough?

I play heavy guitar in my band Hell n' Diesel from Sweden, and we play REALLY LOUD in our rehersalplace. Much louder than live...obviously, because there is no monitorsystem when we reherse.

My gain is set to maximum and my master is quarter past 12 on my AD30TCH. Past that setting there is no volume change, just more, and more cranked sound. So instead of buying that 140TC I bought the smaller one just to be able to crank the pile of poop out of it.
Cause the truth is, if you crank the 140TC....Your body will open up and guts will fall out on you fine rock n' roll guitar.

Its much better to be able to crank it and still get a decent volume......and still the sound technicians gets crazy on me when I crank my AD30TC on stage, coz its still to loud.

Nothing wrong with volume! I often have my AD140 Lead cranked up to full blast in a tiny 150 capacity club. Probably not good for my ears, but my band have been complimented by a number of people with "You guys are the loudest ****in' band I've seen in my life!", and people are often commenting on the sheer power & clarity of our sound at such a high volume.
And besides, just besause you've got an amp that loud, doesn't mean you have to utilise it's full capacity. You could easily satisfy a club crowd with the master volume just past half-way with the Ad140 Lead. Having said that, I can't compare it with the Ad30 because I ain't tried it yet.
