Awesome then, but that still is weird that I would have no signal going through and still get a random quiet whistle (slowly increasing then goes away when I turn the gain down like a millimeter) but no buzz...

I'm one of the folks who believes that the RV50 can do everything. It can give you a light breakup to molten lava lead tones. It has an amazing clean tone that is really flat (some people call dark) and you can EQ the highs and lows to your liking.

Plus the fact that you can use any guitar you want with whatever pickups makes it an all in one amp. I just prefer a Les Paul with EMG81/85 for that amazing lead tone. But you could use a LP with stock gibson pickups, or use PAFs for that low output sound. Or use Duncans for the middy sound.

But any way you slice it, the RV will deliver.

Well, it looks like you guys were right, it was one of the 12AT7 tubes. No more squealing on my amp anymore!

Glad you got that worked out. I'll keep this in mind should my amp ever start squealing (unreasonably).

I've also noticed that the amp seems to come back "on" when I turn it from "stand-by" to "off" fairly quickly. When I say it turns "on", basically what is happening is that the output seems to magically turn back on, and I can hear my guitar for about 2-3 seconds before it actually turns off.

Why did I buy used.....

Maybe that's a delay between the amp head and speakers. Cause I can always hear my speakers turning off and on (or at least getting that cut off sound) if I have anything going through.

It's possible that it's parasitic oscillation. Parasitic oscillation occurs when an amplifier has enough gain to feedback into itself internally. Generally it happens when a layout is botched in a higher gain amplifier, but I can't imagine the RV series has a botched layout. Though, it is possible that the amp runs on the edge of parasitic oscillation at max gain regardless - and that the conditions have added up to put it over the edge, such as cheap tubes, etc.

That's interesting because that's almost "exactly" what I felt was wrong with my amp. But it has only rarely been doing this. And I'm only running the gain at 3 o clock max. I try to hang around 12:30-2 o clock most of the time. Occasionally I'll throw it up to 3 though. And sometimes when I do, I get this low level feedback when I'm not using any volume or playing. If I'm playing though, I don't get any feedback unless I try to make it feedback.

Well, I took it to the tech on Wednesday, and they said they should have a good idea by this coming Tuesday, so as soon as I hear anything I'll let you guys know. Again, for those who missed it, here are a few sound clips of my amps problems:

Well there's a lot of factors that come into play with this. Sometimes it really is the tubes. But other times it's outside factors. For example, don't expect to have the gain at 2 o clock and the volume at noon and stand next to the amp (within 5 feet distance) and expect it to not make any unwanted noise.

Some of us are playing high gain pickups (I use EMGs) and we have to learn to control how our amp reacts to the guitar.

Sometimes an amp should squeal like in situations with high gain. But other times there genuinely is something wrong with a tube and it goes microphonic.
