hi, two questions:
one, seems to be a common quest-ion...what pedal to use for solos over a high-gain rockerverb head...Just a liitle volume and bite....tried the mxr micro amp, mxr 10 band eq, xotic boost pedals....
any ideas? perhaps an ibanez tube screamer?
2nd question:
I've owned my head for one year now (horray!) When do I need to consider new tubes??
thanks!!
rockerverb boost and tubes...

tried it both ways...in the loop it boosted the volume but transfigured the tone ...cleaned it up, took away the soul, nfg...in front, with the gain up on amp, little to no effect.
Peace, and disturbance thereof,

Yeah, in front will just push the preamp tubes harder. In the FX loop cleaned it up? Hmm. What do you have the gain settings at? Did you crank the micro amp? I would think you'd want a very neutral pedal in the FX chain, but you could look for one that will add just a little bit of dirt, like the AC Booster or something like that. Most of the lovely sound you're getting is from the amp, but if you're pushing it harder with a volume boost pedal, I wouldn't expect cleaner tones...

I recommend the MXR 10 band EQ, pre distortion EQ is the way forward I think, you can really brighten up your sound, or use it as a treble boost / regular volume boost / gain pedal, such a robust little stomp box too, perfect if you're in a hard working band.
As for tubes I've just loaded my OTR120 with JJ E34Ls (super el34), when you push them they really bite, maybe a bit aggressive for what you're after but I think they're great.

you guys tried 2 pedals when using high gain... one to push the front end a bit more for a more compressed liquid tone.. and a clean boost in the loop too add the volume?..
surely that'd be the best of both worlds?..
when decided on that, it'd be easy to knock up a box that turns both pedals on at once.. using a 4pdt switch.. i think they exsist.. if a 5pdt switch does... you could have an LED too!
