At least for me...

bought a RD Standard Reissue via
Guitar Center Online, probably the problem alone was that. What incredibly poor workmanship. I have never seen so many uneven frets, each fret was really sharp on both sides, the pickup selector switch was broken, so no neck pickup. The neck had enough relief to feed a starving third work country ( only used as example, please no hate mail )....needless to say I sent it back...didn't realize GC requires you to pay the return shipping unlike Musiciansfriend.

Serves me right for buying something without first playing it!

Ouch, sorry to hear that - I would be pissed at having to stump up for the return shipping, how is it your fault they sent you a duff guitar?

You are expecting too much from Gibson. It is not like it's a Fender or a PRS.

Hmm, there are as many dog Fenders as Gibsons out there in my opinion. PRS do nothing for me, so I can't comment on those.

Jeez that sucks Mark. They look like such awesome pieces of kit too. How's your SG-3 treating you?

maybe gibson should completely get rid of their lower end guitars, and just concentrate on getting the better guitars up to QC

I do think that Gibson is riding mighty high on their name.I have some good Gibsons, but I have seen some that were a joke for the kind of money they want.

to be honest, most of the guitars in guitar center (electric guitars) are just garbage these days. Rarely do i find a guitar that is setup well, plays well, or anything along those lines when i go in there. its really pathetic. I never noticed till i had my own guitars which were setup by a pro and the difference is night and day.

You may not like PRS, but you will have to admitt the quality control is extremely good on those guitars. My McCarty soapbar is top notch workmanship.

I don't care for PRS's myself, and although their QC is better than most, they certainly have their fair share of lemons. We had a Custom 22 come in with sharp frets; a McCarty came in with an absolutely horrible finish and paint job around the front strap button; the new spruce hollowbody we got in has a faulty tone pot that shorts out silent and has to be wiggled to work, and it also has a noticable volume change between pickups. All these came in in the last two months, and all are $2300 + guitars.
