I have read that changing the stock tubes on the deluxe reverb makes a BIG difference. Maybe you are not loving the rocker that much for the same reason.

I just switched out the stock tubes for EH tubes, and I think it's a cool sound, but I think when it comes down to it, the best sounds I've ever gotten are when I'm running two amps in stereo, and there's some extra natural boost from different amps playing the same note, only applying their own textures to the note to make it bigger. That's why I'm looking at a 2nd amp. I could just go back to using a Vintage 16 amp (Carvin), it was great, but I'd like to try out the fender as they're notoriously voiced a bit cleaner (and i'm looking for great, loud, strong cleans, not an amp that has to run the full gamut of clean to heavy metal)

The '64 Vibroverb is the bee's knees for Fender BF IMO as well. It won't get as loud but it won't cost you a fortune either, if you get a Traynor. The new ones look nice. I just sold a 1x15 which was a model YBA-2B. It's taller than the Vibroverb and only 25w but is has a similar, sweet, clean yet rich tone. It was designed as a studio and practice bass amp. It sounds great with guitar and takes pedals well, plus they are affordable. Butt ugly, I'm afraid, but you can't have everything ;-) Here is what they look like:

Mine was a '71, I think. I replaced a few caps and rewired the speaker output with fresh speaker cable and it sounded great. The guy that bought it never plays his Marshall anymore! Here is a video link to a bluesy clip played on one of their more modern tube amps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSZvL0bT ... re=related

My friend has the YCV80 and loves it. It is not mimicking any tone in particular but that makes his tone all his own

I much liked the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 1x12 over the Fender Hot Rod Deville 2x12. It had more punch. I bought the Deville.. go figure.

Yeah, but the blasted reserve is how much? I dislike reserve auctions. I think they're annoying. Just set it at a starting price that is the bare minimum you'd ever take, and then let it fly!

That's about the same thing. I was thinking of these:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=480980

The basic difference seems to be that the 40w model has a Vintage 30 speaker and the 20w model has a Greenback. I also like the wine red tolex and wheat grill better, but that's just me. Black is nice too. The amp that you found has a cheaper Celestion speaker. There may be other differences but I didn't feel like printing out the poop sheets and pouring over each one in a list fashion for you (I still love ya, man ;-). I think the 20w version would have a similar sound to the 1x15 that I had, only in a more compact and lighter cabinet. That would be very cool and a great little amp in its own right. It may not have the power that you want for your application however and simply be a bit redundant with the R30. The 40w version should have gobs of chimey, clean headroom and still have some grunt for times that you want that. I think that GC has both on display all the time. I'd rather actually buy it from a Mom & Pop if you can find one around you though. For only $20 more, I'd get the WR version.

I love my "Tonester" and I guess you'd have to call it a "Gold face" heheh.

It started life in '73 as a Fender Bantam Bass amp. These were a lot like Bassman but were in a Super Reverb type cab and used a weird, plastic trapezoidal speaker made by Yamaha! Weird, huh? Anyway, this buddy in AZ, took the old Bantam Bass and converted it to the Fender AB763 (Blackface Bandmaster type circuit). I took it off his hands on a trade deal and built a new cab for it (a 1x12 + 1x10) and had Weber print up a new faceplate of my design.

So it's a real one of a kind oddball. But it's got a killer Blackface sound. I love the 10 and 12 together too, really punchy and full sounding. Here's a clip:

That sounds cool Leon....nice licks too!!

Neil, my advice is to drink heavily and buy a Super Reverb....you'll think it's loud until you stand near my superlead full stack, and then it will sound like it's out of phase! : ) I love fender amps too....although I sold my 65 Super Reverb reissue....shouldn't have done that....oh well.

Lots of great choices out there...

If he got a Super, you guys could jam together on the back porch. Neither one of you leaving your home... ;-D. I'd pitty those in colorado without ear muffs though :-)....
