So I took apart my strat and tried to put it back together and now the tremolo block looks like its 3/4 of an inch off the body when it used to just sit nicely on top. I've tried spring placement but does anyone have any idea and how to get the bridge to rest lightly on the body instead of hovering out?
thanks. I use 11 gauge's by the way.

You Probably socked the 6 screws down too tight and it is "popping a wheelie" on the knife edge.
simply back out each screw a turn until it rests close to the body. Then tighten the two screws in the spring cavity for more tension. Loosen the strings first for ease.

Go to this site, and order the book "how to make your electric guitar play great" ... I have many books on guitar setup & repair, but this has the best strat info... Also, does your strat have the vintage (6 pivot screws) or the 2 point tremelo?

Same problem when I swapped to heavier strings. I run 4 springs now. That did the job for me.
