im planning on trading my 4x12 for a 2x12, the only reason im doing is for convince and a bit less over-all volume live, also to put less fear in the club owner as i roll on in with my 2 half stacks [:0]

first question is

1 - will my OR head fit even on the 2x12 on its side, like vertical?

2 - will i loose any projection/feeling?

3 - what are the pro's and cons?

id like to hear from people thats gone thru this size down change.
.

I am very happy with my 2X12.I don't feel I am lacking.I don't know about putting it on top of the vertical cab. I wouldn't put my Retro up there, but then I always like to play it safe.

I dont know if your head will fit on the cab if turned up or not. But, I had 412s all my life, until a few years ago. And honestly, there is a difference, but overall, a 212 is plenty enough.
I would say the major plus is the smaller size is easier to carry.

That is indeed a big deal.If you have to do shows with other bands involved, being able to set up and break down fast is important. Also as Jon stated the intimidation of a half stack for the clubs owner. They already shake in their boots whan the see my Orange head. For some unknown reason them boy thinks Ize guann be too loud:?:

i hear you not wanting to damage the retro, is it the same width? or will it over lap? im 99.9% sure my OR is the same size as the Retro?

id love to have it fit even vertically. that would look great. i would surley turn the badges and remove the wooden slides. i dont have my OR here with me so can't measure it, i wont be anywhere near her until Saturday.

I believe they are the same width, all the newer heads are anyway.Mine will fit, there is just too much $hit going down on stage so I won't put it up there.

I made that downgrade at one point and didn't feel like I was really lacking anything to be honest.

Hi Jon, your OR will fit perfectly on top of a 2x12.(Take a look at the sig). Rather than downsizing, I upgraded and felt it was better. You can not beat the sound of an Orange/Matamp 4x12.

I got rid of my 2x12 because I could not keep it and the 4x12. You will notice a difference in bass response and projection. It got on my nerves at practice, but in a live situation, I will concede it may be for the best, considering, a) How loud the OR amps are, and B) How directional the cabs are.

If we could all enjoy the size of a 4x12", and have someone carry it for us, I think there'd be a lot of takers. I like the 2x12" because it's the happy compromise between a 1x12" and 4x12" (duh neil, thanks for telling us what we already knew...but wait, there's more) SONICALLY. Still gets you some great lows and thumps, but it's less space, and also easier to tame just because there aren't 2 extra speakers firing. I've only used a few 4x12"s and even fewer 2x12"s, but sonically there's not a really terrible loss.
