Aww man Phil talk him in to it!
I have an '86 4003 and a '06 4001c64s and they both sound just so sweet through the orange amp, unfortunately I don't have an orange bass cab so I'm using an Ampeg, decent but could be much better, I guess I was wondering someones take on the bass cabs and just in general if it's a good mixture (Rickenbacker and Orange)

My bassist is buying an Avatar 4x10, he currently has an Ampeg 8x10, it's a bit much. The problem is he's broke. He really wants a ric but can't afford it. Maybe when my band gets rolling more we can make enough money to get him that equipment. I'm sure it sounds insanely good.

My bassist has this thing in his head that he needs 8 billion watts and a gigantic cab....and he never turns up past 3. I'm trying to convince him to sell his gear and get an Orange head with my guarantee that he will have plenty of head room. In reality, I dont' really know that, I'm just assuming. Is that a true statement though?

Rickenbacker 4003s are lovely... I have a Musicman Stingray which is great too, but if I ever went back to playing bass regularly a 4003 would be the thing giving me GAS for sure.

The grabber is pretty nice, really unique punchy sound, kind of like a p-bass but a little rougher. Surprisingly light-weight.
My Thunderverb through my 4-10 seems a bit underpowered, although it could be the speakers, the thing has seen better days. The 8-10 destroys children.

Well, technically, your bassist is right. When you don't push the power amp past it's limits, your result is a cleaner sound. There are plenty of threads and people to talk to on www.talkbass.com/forum It's really worth your while to check it out. And don't think they're all solid state junkies, there are some KILLER tube head fiends on there, ha.
