How does this amp (AD30 HTC) compare to a JCM 2000 in volume. I want a Orange twin channel head but I'm not sure if the AD30 HTC can cut it. I'm still playing in the garage and I want to know if I should get the AD30 HTC or the AD140 TC. I don't want to get a head I will end up replacing in a couple years, but I don't want something that is too loud.

unless you are playing in stadiums you don't need all those watts. tube amps tone gets better as the voulume goes up. so on a 100-140 watt amp, you are ridiculously loud.

i own the ad30htc and it is great. it can get really loud, but not too loud. and the tones blow that JCM junk to pieces.

you will keep this for the rest of your life, if you choose to buy it.

My band has opened for a few big christian rock bands (switchfoot). Even then will the AD30 HTC have what i need?

I just called my Orange dealer here in oregon about the Orange AD140 HTC. The guy said they stopped making the AD140 HTC. Is this correct? I got the impression the guy much rather wanted me to buy the AD30 HTC b/c they had some in stock.

if your talking a rock and roll situation with a drummer that hits hard, i dont think 30 watts is enough power for stage volume. i would go with the 140. you can always turn down, and keep the master up, and get good tone. you cant tell your drummer to turn down....

if this is true, iwould find a store thats a little more musician friendly. to have a guy try to sell you stuff thats only in stock is bull%&$t. sound like something sam ash or guitar center would do. IMO they are the worst!! gc more then the other!!
i would rather pay a few more bucks to a ma and pa place that actually cares, and i do exactly that.

I know what you mean, unfortunately I only have 1 Orange dealership that isn't 500 miles away!

Anyway,
We have played a few big gigs (as stated before), but we are still practicing in the basement and we still play like local clubs. Is the AD 140 HTC too loud for that?

absolutely NOT too loud. as long as youve got a master volume you are good to go. alittle tweeking and youll get that thing sounding pretty damn good at low volumes, ill bet. and then when you start playing venues in front of 2000 people youll have all the headroom you need.
RIGHT?? and when the times right, youll be ready to conquer the world with that amp youve had for years!!!!! i say get the big boy,
youll have it for life....and i bet no regrets!!!! good luck

ad140's sound great at low volumes. and they sound evan better cranked up. these are truely great amps well worth all the $$$$. go with the 140 it will eat a jcm for lunch.

Well, I think the AD30HTC has a better tone especially if you don't play very loud. That's why the AD30HTC is often used at professional studios. But in my opinion you can also use the AD30HTC for the practise-room or stage, where they put a microphone in front of your amp anyways...
You have tune it up a little bit if you want to play very loud, but then you can also feel the "real" distortion!

i'm in the same situation. i wouldn't mind the ad30htc but our drummer is a hard hitter. and the bass gots the boom. i'm afraid to go the 30watt and realized i should have went further. and i'm not talking about any miking. i'm talking straight raw rock. awesome acoustic drums that are loud, bass that is a thump and a half. but my guitar amp cannot cut it anymore. i know orange is where it's at. but should i go 140 or 30, see that new ad50 even sounds like an answer, but i'm in the states. i've been told by the orange dealerships here that it would take a long time for the ad50 to cross the seas onto american soil. any suggestions??????. this is also my first time on this forum. it is pretty sweet. so aloha to all. i hear that the jcm2000 has quite a few problems. the circuit board is very very very fragile, and the internal device on them that does the switching usually breaks. i know an expert that works on them a lil too much. so if you get a jcm2000,,,, you have to seriously psychotically baby it. besides the earlier jcm's are built and engineered much better. i know the jcm800's and 900's can give you good volume, but.... i haven't heard the ad30 yet. so i don't know how much it can push..... i hear can tear it up.... but i want to know if it can tear it in a raw show situation. i want assurance, reliability accompanied with the orange quality tone.... any

Take the 140Watt modell, you will be closer to the original OrangeSound...just Overdrive some EL34 and you know why...PURE Rock...if you have a hard hitting Drummer (like we do) the you will need at least 50Watt (but always overdriving the Amp isnt that good for Tubes)..also you pay a little bit more vor 110Watt more (i know its not right..its class A vs A/B..but hey offical its 110Watt!)...why not?

Why is an ORANGE, orange? If it would be Green it would be an apple....

i agree with you, but what do you mean by 110 watt? it's really not 140?..... i'm confused also with the class A and class A/B as well... see i'm just a person who hopped on the land of tubes. and coming from the world of solid state. i'm kinda wet behind the ears.
