The Evolution of Tone
Moderator: bclaire
Man I am in a constant state of flux.I guess that is what keeps it interesting.I NEVER thought I would love a strat as much as I do my 62 A.V.Now I play some of my teles and they are just too damn clean (is there really such a thing)? At this particular time I am so enjoying the glassy ,vintage tones of my strat.I hope someday I will even love a Les Paul....nah

Yeah, don't stretch it too hard!
Funny, I am back into humbucker guitars,
dunno why, or what happened, I can get great
cleans out of all of them, and they sound a
bit smoother than the single coils...Times they are
a changing....Oh, and not sure why, no mud to be seen,
or heard anywhere...
Or we be getting old!
I still really like the single coils in the SG though.
Don't think I've played my tele in weeks...Where did I
go wrong, must turned left when I shoulda turned right!

<br />what's not a les paul about that?

When most people think of Les Pauls they are thinking of humbuckers.
Someday I will find the right amp and guitar.I haven't found what I like yet.

Call me anal!!! But even when the Gods smile upon me, and I'm thinking that my tone is the best that it's ever been.. In my heart and mind I always feel that I can make it better. From cheap to $$$ guitars, boutique to mass production amps and pedals, $5.00 to 50.00 cords, etc.. I'll try em all, and decide for myself... I had a good nite last month and smoked some kid with a 3000.00 vos LP, using my MIJ talman.. Mostly it was his inexperience, and the gtr was very nice... The point is, that he was ready to give up on the LP, until I plugged it into my rig..... I think that if you stop searching for the ultimate tone, and have no curiousity, and think you know more than the 1st year player.. You just might be doomed..

I've tried them all: LP, P90s, EMGs, Single Coil. I definitely gravitate towards Single Coils and Strats. They are, too me, very expressive with a lot of personality. If LP or humbuckers are "perfect" then single coils have color and character. And, I also love P90s.
