In 1979, I visited Germany and, still being a drinking man in those days, I sampled liberally of the local offerings. This only showed me what swill Amerikan Beer really is. As one of my German friends who visited me put it, "Awwwk, (or something approximating this,) Diese Scheiße ist Wasser!" (Forgive my spelling, it's been too many years.)

rrrajo, if you'll switch to "Mickie's Big Mouth" ale, you'll be able to finish twice as fast since you'll now have two applicators going!

Guiness is nasty stuff IMO. To heavy to binge drink with. Most i managed was nine pints which did bad...bad things to my insides. Depending on where you get it from, it is different. In Ireland where most of it is consumed, the Guiness isnt pasturised so it has a slightly different taste to that available elsewhere. Where its brewed is likely important too with the beer vats and all.

Now Staorpramen is a beer worthy of consumption! One of my favourites.

I hate to admit it, was nothing but a "hard liquor"
kinda guy until few years ago (heart attack)...I now only drink an
occasional beer and have a glass of wine. I have
never tried Guinness...

Think it's time I tried it?

Bit of a love/hate drink I think though!

Edit - I love it! Definitely my drink of choice. Although you can get bad pints that will make you feel pretty rough.

Guinness is a food group in Ireland. I would not recommend binge drinking on it. It is heavy and thick and almost a meal in itself. It is meant to sip over about an hour. As it warms up it becomes more flavorful.

My other favorite stout is Cooper out of Australia. Half a bottle and you get wobbly.

American beers are served ice cold. This numbs the taste buds so you don't realize how bad it tastes.

I have always fancied moving to the UK, but
don't think that will ever happen.

Instead I will pick up some Guinness this afternoon,
and pretend I am in the UK...it's like 104 degrees
here today (40 Celsius)...might have to drink quite
a few to make that day dream reality!

But from what many have said, quite a few could be
a total disaster?

The last thing I was drinking before I finally quit was "Killian's Red." I found I could put away a number of them and only suffer the usual ill-effects of having one or two, (cases,) more than was prudent. It's not as heavy as Guinness, yet has more flavor than the typical Amerikan swill. I can only imagine that the real stuff is pretty good.

In Prague, I was learned to drink half'n half.
That is when they pour you half a light beer and half a dark.
Really tasty !

The next trick is a Schnapps in a small glass held between first and second finger and a pint held between thumb and first finger. You then drink the whole lot so that the Schnapps pours on your tongue as you drink the pint.... good finger practice, and tastes wicked.
Cheers
Brian
