Save your money for a tube amp. IMHO, the Crush isn't going to be any better than your transistor'd Marshall. The AD30 would probably be the way to go for you... but it's a good chunk of change. If you like the Distillers and that's the sound you're going for, I think you will be disappointed with the Crush amps.
You may not be gigging now but you probably will in the future and the Crush won't cut it. It's a bedroom amp at best and a beginner's amp...

I hope I didn't come across as condescending... I really wish I had had someone when I was 18 to give me advice on what amp to buy! I wouldn't have bought an Ampeg combo- I would have probably bought a Fender.
For all of the money they cost, I think that Badcats are just modified Fenders... I'd try to hold out for as long as you can with the MG and get a nice tube Orange...

hi spyro, im the same age as yourself, i started guitar about 3 /3n a half years ago, i had an Marshall MG thing.
I think I’ve been extremely luckily with my orange, i had a look around the internet, and found that "Academy of sound" sold Oranges. And there it was! A Brand new Orange 4x12 for £399 with Celestions. So i went up there and you should have seen there faces.<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> The joy’s of a typo! (Basically British law states, if you advertise a price, you have to sell it for that price.) so that was a nice saving of around £170!
Also they gave me well over the odds for my MG in P/X so I got my AD30TCH and 4x12 for a good slice under a grand.
In conclusion - Just keep on looking around on different sites, i.e. eBay etc… and you never know you might pick up a steal!

Well spyro, you can always get an:
Orange AD15/12 for £559 @ http://www.fretmusic.co.uk/prodtype.asp ... t&id=sub67
Orange AD5 for £449 @ http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/prodli ... ers#Orange
Although they are cheaper then the "bigger" Oranges, you would still get that sound!

thanks for all the help guys, and I think i'll probably go for the AD15/12 to get me started on the "ORANGE" brand and if I like what I hear If it takes extention cabs I could get a orange 4x12 and hook it up for say concert hall sized gigs, ONE DAY lol, isnt it true that say a 15 watt tube class a amp would be the equivalent in loudness to say a 30 or 50 watt SS amp??
and thanx for all your help
and have fun with your oranges i'll see you lot around..

Yeah, tube amps (especially class A) tend to sound louder than solid state.
Keep an eye on the amp that you'll want and use for a while. If you're going to want more than 15 amps in the future, maybe think about shelling out the extra bucks for a bigger amp. I got a 100 watt solid state Marshall and after 6 months decided to get an Orange AD30R. The Marshall is now gathering dust. Given as I got it 2nd hand, and can sell it on, it's not too much of a problem.
If you can't afford a tube amp at the mo, getting a decent solid state 2nd hand in the meantime is a viable alternative if you simply need the extra volume. You can always sell it on to finance buying a new amp. As the other guys say though, once you go tube, you don't go back to solid state!
Don't tell me the best way, just tell me the cheapest way...

There's always the Roland JC-120 which is solid state and has a fantastic clean sound which works wonderfully with all kinds of effect pedals. The built-in distortion is staggeringly bad, though. However, I doubt whether anyone looking for the Orange sound would be able to find it in a JC-120...
