Depends what sort of tubes you've got...
Don't tell me the best way, just tell me the cheapest way...

Yeah they all should light up though not all with the same brightness.

can anyone tell me why the preamptubes have the tincans??
and also why(??) most amps only seem to have a tincan on one of the preamptubes...

I suspect it's to shield them from RF & EM interference. The chasis shields all of the circuitry with a ground but the tubes are exposed. The preamp tubes are most suseptible to this so the power tubes don't need to be shielded. Of course if you have a Monster power cord you probably don't need the shields...... <img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>

I thought the cans prevented them from rattling around too- never thought about shielding. Funny about the Monster Cord!
