or80 serial no
Moderator: bclaire
Cheers for your replies,
I've got a feeling that it might be an OTR80... Am I right in believing that these reissues have the misleading indication 'OR80' stamped on the back beside the serial number? It also has a full metal grill on the back, no wood, and the whole thing looks pretty new. Unless it really is a vintage OR80 in immaculate condition, I'm guessing it's a mid 1990s OTR80...
I don't have enough experience to tell the diffreence... The seller is convinced it's not a reissue, and I think he's genuine, but I reckon he was told it was vintage when he bought it.
Are there any obvious details that help you tell the difference between the old and new versions?
Thanks again...

Sounds like a re-issue. Having a full metal back plate says it's a newer amp.
What does the face plate look like, does it say the model on the front?
What kind of power plug does it have, is it a fixed plug or removable?
What does the Orange logo look like, is the left leg of the "A" in Orange skinny or fat?

I agree,
but i can't see the guy selling it trying to rip me off; I've tried the amp, it seemed fine (which doesn't prove that something might go wrong). Actually there was slight crackle for a minute or so as it warmed up, but i thought that was quite common.
The whole amp is really in immaculate condition, + i had a look inside, everything looks good, it has new tubes.
The seller has been running it at 30W instead of 80, by removing two tubes.
Anything you suggest i should look for or ask about?
thanks again

if he removed 2 tubes in an or80 then it would be running at 0 watts.

Bang on EC! You're dead right, 2 minus 2 = none at all. Thanks for the first good laugh of the day!
Strikes me that the seller really doesn't know what he's on about. Buying s/h is always a bit of a gamble, though if the amp itself stands up to a good thrashing it may be worth it (if the price is good enough that is).
A newer amp (sounds likely) at least shouldn't have the problem of ageing capacitors etc. causing problems yet, and even the reissues are decently built amps. If you really want an older Orange it'll probably cost more, especially with a proper service to think about.
Whatever, don't pay over the odds for this one Jaike! Your choice.
Good Luck!
