You guys with the bad RV50's...check the transformer..I guess there was a batch of bad ones...this brand new RV50 has a transformer putting out like 130 volts, and it should be putting out 6.......
It blew out the whole chassis..
So when you think its tubes, and you replace them but the noise and buzz come back or you blow fuses..better look at the transformer...

Yup I can agree with that, mine was a late 05 model RV50 Head - bad transformer. Was replaced with a RV50 combo's transformer, just hoping this one doesn't turn out to be a dud as well!

Is there any possibility that Orange will own up, and either recall, or extend the warranty to those of us with the defective units?.. I think that would be a positive gesture, and a good way to say "Thank You" to all of the loyal RV owners on this forum, and elsewhere. After all, word of mouth is the best form of advertising.

What distinguishing marks are on the faulty transformers? Because that's right about the timeframe I purchased mine.

Do you know serial number info? Because if that is the case I would like to have my transformer upgraded by Orange USA free of charge. I mean this wasn't exactly a cheap amp.

And to be honest I always remember the first amp I had sounding much better.

I e-mailed Orange USA and Orange UK with a link to this thread -- I would suggest others do to.

My RV50 combo had Mercury Magnetics transformers in it. The head I have has no stickers on top like the combo but the amps were made at about the same time (dec 2005). Anyone know what's up with that? Either way the combo RV50 didn't work and this head does. Any thoughts?

In the previous post I neglected to mention that I read somewhere on these forums that you could spot the Mercury Magnetics transformers by the stickers on the transformers if you look through the grill. There's no stickers on the head's transformers but I'm not sure what that means. peace.
