EQ SUGGESTIONS! There are only three knobs... just turn them!

If we were talking about a triple rectumfrier I might understand but an Orange amp?
Seriously. People asking for settings on an amp with only 3 knobs is so silly. Set the volume and level of gain you need, then set the bass/mids/treble at half way and fiddle with each to see how it changes the sound. SUPER basic. Learning to train your ear and knowing what sound you prefer is crucial to playing guitar.
Really....so the fact that he aquired some knowledge about his new amp and learned that the pedal he was running is probably what was affecting his tone on the gain channel is silly? ....then why the fark is there a forum for questions!?

...putting people down for the questions they ask is something Id expect from the little twats on "the ultimate guitar forum"....and not having the common decency to treat newcomers with a tad of respect is definitely not something I thought existed here.

You're absolutely right. I couldn't help laughing about that triple rectumfrier though...

It's not very common for people to solicit or suggest amp setting recommendations on here as compared to other forums, but it's seemingly for good reason. It's generally hard to dial-up a bad sound from an Orange regardless of how the controls are set, and those controls are usually relatively simple compared to a lot of other mainstream amps. Then there's the concept of setting the EQ for the particular surroundings of the amp. Those ideas do support the conclusion that it may not be that useful to use someone else's preferred amp settings in your own (different) situation. However, it doesn't hurt anything to try 'em anyways. Silliness is perfectly appropriate around here.

Haha, cheers man. Yeah the speakers are pretty well broken in at this point. I've had the 2x12 for about 2 years now and been gigging it pretty loudly.

So, how are you getting on with this RV50 now? You've had a it for about a week now?

How are you settling with it?

I'm absolutely loving it. Everytime I turn it on I can't help but smile. I loved the DT but the RV is just unreal. I played a Marshall JVM the week before I bought the RV and was tempted as I could've saved myself about 200 bucks but there's no way I'd make that decision now.

The dirty channel is just perfect to my ears, I couldn't be happier. :)

I got to give it a go with an EP Booster and a Suhr Koko boost and the clean boost is definitely the way to go, gave me some great clarity whilst also keeping the thickness of the overdrive and that sweet Orange growl, so the OCD is now on the market!! Gonna pick up a Koko in the next fortnight. But yeah what an amp, at this rate I can't see me buying another amp for a long long time.....

Yeah I call my RV50 a smile switching device. It's a beautiful sounding amp for sure.

I love to play anything on it, jazz to heavy rock, it does it all. It's got lots of low end too, a remarkable amount really - I use to have one of my guitars with 13-68 strings tuned in B to B, the low B was incredibly low, really impressive. Does metal really well if that's your thing too. Really a beast of an amp!!!!

I've plugged it into my PPC212 today to try and find a nice tone with my Les Paul, it's slowly but surely getting there but just wondering what you guys are dialling in to get that sweet sound?

Also with regards pedals what do you find works well? I was running a Fulltone OCD into it today but it sounded a little "wooly" in comparison to the beastly sound it gave me when plugged into my Dual Terror. I'm sure it's just a case of tweaking but would be interested to hear what other guys are running.
Congrats on your new amp man! I just became an Orange owner and am still experimenting with my JRT. The amount of tones it produces apart from all out high gain/power metal, it's cleans, blues, and rock tones are amazing! Just last night, I tried this: treble and bass at 0 and mids at 9... sounds like an odd setting but with my Flying V's pickups at around 6, it gave this classic, sort of "Deep-Purple meets 'Priest dirty yet warm tone"... give that a try. Your LP has a natural fatness to it's tone so that will be quite a cool setting...

I prefer this for cleans: T=6, M=5, B=4.5, Gain = 3. For metal rhythm: T=7, M=3, B=6, Gain = 7. Metal lead: T=4 to 5, M=6 to 7, B=6, Gain = 7.

Classic rock would be somewhere in between the above settings and for blues the gain will be around 4 and mids up to about 7. All about experimentation though :)

Well, I haven't placed the order yet. Looking for a black MkII in mint condition. They're quite rare.

Just out of curiosity, are you looking for a boost pedal for leads (and possibly intros), or something to leave on all the time?

If you're looking for something to boost leads, I'm loving the TC Electronics Spark Mini boost. It has a feature where if you want to make a fill stand out in a verse (like Even Flow or White Room) you can hold the switch with your foot, play the fill, and release it and go back to your normal rhythm level--very handy!
Yes, the Dual Terror is loud enough!
