Re: Things That Make You Go... Uuuurgh!

My band rents a practice space and we have to unplug everything when we leave, so I always have to remind our drummer not to unplug our amps before we turn them off. Back before I had my Orange, I had a Marshall AVT50 combo. Our drummer invited another friend of his over to jam, and I mistakenly let...

Re: How Many Strings do You want?

Meshuggah is pretty much THE reason why anyone wants more than 7 strings, though some other people (Tosin Abasi or Rook, for example) have written some really cool sounding stuff with 8 or 9 strings without sounding like a Meshuggah rip-off. The problem lots of people have is that 8-strings are basi...

Re: A Black Orange or an Orange Orange?

This reminds me of some advice I took from one of Mr. Rob Chapman's videos on how to choose a guitar, and I think it applies equally to amps. He said that sound is obviously most important, but that looks are pretty important too. It has to be something YOU think looks awesome. If you have a dumb-lo...

Re: 100W head into 2x12: Safe?

The PPC212 can handle 120W. One nice thing about the TH100 is that you get 4 wattage options, so you don't have to run it on 100W all the time. I've had mine for a few months now with a PPC212 - for practices and shows I run it at half power/4 output tubes and it is ridiculously loud (like I still ...

Re: Newbie + Question

How much low end do you want? If you play a lot of drop tunings and such, the bigger transformers in the RV100 will give you the extra low end that you need at any volume. Otherwise, the RV50 would be a great match for the PPC212 if you play primarily standard tuning and/or spend a lot of time doin...

Re: What are your favorite Rockumentaries?

Throw Down Your Heart is an awesome documentary. Not rock, but it follows Bela Fleck bringing the banjo back to its roots in Africa. Amazing music and well put together film. Definitely worth watching.

Re: Some new gear i got

That Gretsch looks sexy, congrats on the trade! Never played one but they seem awesome. I've heard very good things about Avatar cabs as well, especially for the price. Any idea how it compares to an orange or mesa 212? Syl Sylvain uses double stick tape to keep his bridge in place once you find the...

Cool stuff man! Swine definitely sounds most like a single to me. It's got a more traditional rock structure and catchy riffs. I personally like The Pagans a tad better though :)

Re: What are your favorite Rockumentaries?

Muscle Shoals. The soundtrack was just nominated for an Emmy or Grammy or something. Great movie about the musicians (Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers...) and the studios. Between Sound City and Muscle Shoals I think 75% of the music I grew up with was recorded at these two (three actually) place...

Re: Band promotion?

Sent out a few short submissions today. It's hard to find blogs that fit our style of music, so I've been looking at places that seem open-minded and receptive to different kinds of music. We're not really looking to get signed by a label, get a record deal, or anything like that. We're honestly hap...

Re: Band promotion?

Thanks guys, really useful info you're giving me. I'll be sure to share this with the rest of the band as well. Unfortunately we're a bit hard on cash right now, so I'll be trying to find smaller blogs that might like us for now. Good call making the emails personal, I think that's good advice in ge...
