Re: Rocker 30 build/mod dilemma. Thoughts?
Yeah, having fixed / cathode bias switchable would be great. But any amp running in true class A (such as any single ended amp) would completely lose the dynamic benefits of cathode biasing which actually depend on class AB running. (Total power valve current being passed doesn't change at all in t...

Re: Rocker 30 build/mod dilemma. Thoughts?
There's another thing you can take a look out for in terms of getting a quieter amp, and that is the grounding connections. My AD50 has a star ground in the middle of the amp and everything is connected to this. I drilled a new hole close to the mains input and mounted the green/yellow safety ground...

Re: Oldie Orange Matamp #006
I really like the OFG as is too. But who is Andreas? Yeah. Who? It was Geert being lazy about updating the OFG. Now it's me. My bad. I thought his name was Andreas. But so if you have control over the site now, I'd love to give you some info on some missing stuff on the site. I'm speaking about the...

Re: Oldie Orange Matamp #006
I love that the Orange Amp Field Guide is a primitive website. It loads in a second and it's easy to browse. It's too bad though that Andreas isn't interested in updating the website. I've sent him a mail or two with some info to fill in some of the blanks, but he doesn't care for this.

AD50 update
So after having this amp for couple of month I've started operating on it quite a bit. I did some rehearsals, then a gig, up on the workbench for tweaking, a couple of more rehersals, another gig, back up on the workbench and so on.. I might be starting to agree with baytamusic's tech who said somet...

Re: Oldie Orange Matamp #006
Hi there Sam! I'm here for your rescue. I have #003 and since I layed my paws on that little gem I was curious as well on how old it might be. This started a little research quest that got a little out of hand. I ended up visiting Matamp in the UK, going through Mat Mathias old records. I sat down w...

Re: Best Orange for metal?
Just saying doesnt Jim root, the guitarist for slipknot, use orange amps??!?! That's pretty metal IMO, sure you aren't going to get the tone of a 6505 or Mesa, but if that's what you wanted then go buy one of those:P Oh, didn't somebody just dug out an old thread, a blast from the past..? :) I read...

Re: Rocker 30 OT Mod
Thanks for the input. I have understood the choke to help at high volumes to keep the PS stable. I'm trying to figure out what you mean by "PS", but I'm lost?? What I've read about the benefits of chokes is to prevent hum, but also increase attack, chunkiness of the amp. But if an amp is dead silen...

Re: Rocker 30 OT Mod
I thought about adding a choke but even at gig volume, this baby has such a quick response, tight low end and is not all mushy. Don't bother. They've probably not installed one because it isn't needed. I have a Marshall 2061X and a 1974X combo without chokes. I bought a Mercury Magnetics choke and ...

Re: AD50 footswitch discovery (video)
Maybe my last post wasn't very clear.. but to totally split the preamp signal off to the switch and back (to another point in the amp) would require 3 wires. One for send one for return and a shared common ground to screen things. I doubt this is the case but I'm not doubting you when you say it's ...

Re: AD50 footswitch discovery (video)
I have figured out that what makes the LED light is nothing but sound. As "sound" is AC, it's fed out through the cable and making the LED light up. It became obvious to me when comparing the tone between using the footswitch and merely unplugging the cable from the footswitch. The LED will suck a l...

Re: AD50 footswitch discovery (video)
Does anyone know if there are copyright laws or similar for schematics? Would it be OK, legally for me to post the schematic? From what I've read it's legal to post a schematic that you have traced yourself: http://archive.ampage.org/threads/1/gagd/003293/Re_Schematics__Copyrights-1.html" onclick="...

Re: AD50 footswitch discovery (video)
You should maybe contact Orange to make sure. I got in touch with Ade and asked him about it. He didn't want me to share the schematics. He told me though: I think you've got one of the very last AD50's made. Having one of the last AD50's feels like a great match to my other Orange which is one of ...

I guess I'll just not share then.
Weren't there a member on the forum that worked at Orange a couple of years ago?
If so, is he still active? Maybe I could PM him and ask?
