Re: Mesa boogie lonestar special

I owned a Trem-O-Verb and it is quite possibly the worst amp that I have ever owned. Absolutely dreadful, it was so bad that I somehow blocked it out of my mind until I read this post. Fear not the mesa LSS is nothing like that dreadful amp. It is a very nice little amp and has some very nice clean...

Re: Mesa boogie lonestar special

Scary stuff...I haven't been on the forum since the design cutover (whenever that was) and of course the first thread I happen upon is about an amp that induced long-dormant GAS in me. I still have many battle scars from the Mesa Trem-O-Verb which had almost no trem and nasty verb as well as an unus...

Janglebox! The original is fine for what you describe but the JB2 offers more fine-tuning.

Re: Idiotic reviews/opinions on Harmony Central

Perhaps we should separate the animals from the zoo here. On your bones of contention: I can see how experience, hard knocks, personal preferences, musical styles, etc. would lead you to a certain point of view or a particular piece of gear. I don't care for V30s, for example, but admit that others ...

Re: Home recording advice needed

It's an odd thing about FireWire...it was stock equipment in laptops for some time but the most recent crop of laptops don't have it despite its widespread use in music and video production and editing. It's simple to add a FireWire card to a PC of course. The problem, as usual, is that the nearly i...

Re: I'd like a better tuner.

tuning all six strings at once is quicker and less intrusive than tuning one by one Unfortunately, some of us are still living with the anatomical restrictions of having only four fingers and a thumb as well as binocular vision that can focus on only one thing at a time - as a result we are restric...

Re: You Dirty B**tards Strymon!

Crikey, I love my Fulltone Supa Trem but this thing looks like the perfect solution - quality maker, lots of voicing options, 2-in-1 pedal, and it would free me up completely in selecting a combo amp for tone and tone alone rather than limiting my choices to reverb-equipped models. In other words, t...

Presumably this was on an industrial estate somewhere with security. The thieves knew what to look for which says professional and/or inside job on this one.

Alan Parsons relied strictly on a condenser, 9-18 in away from the speaker grille.

Re: History, irony and those awkward meetups (Marshall conte

This house was about 1,000 sq ft with every horizontal surface groaning under the weight of bric-a-brac - it resembled an episode of 'Hoarders.' The stairs into the basement (where the amps were kept) were nearly vertical. To top it all off, they owned two dachsunds who went berserk every time the w...

History, irony and those awkward meetups (Marshall content)

Moving house is not fun for a host of reasons. On a musical level, trying to reboot one's musical ties is discouraging. Internet sites and Craigslist have replaced the old music store bulletin boards in many cases, but the 'dating' process is still just as stilted ('What kind of stuff do you play?')...

Re: Epiphone ES 339

I like the 335 shape and F-holes but like the smaller size of the 339.

I was surprised at how chunky the neck was but perhaps that's because I became so accustomed to a '61 SG reissue. Many players love the chunkier necks of course.

Re: I'd like a better tuner.

I don't use a tuner, never have. So you're the one that's always asking me for an open A string, inflicts an audible tuning session on band and audience and is still out of tune when the song starts?..   I have a Peterson StroboStomp which, unsurprisingly, is an excellent piece o...

Or a Trem-O-Verb which used the same circuit. Blech.

On a positive note, it's what led me to buy an Orange.
