Re: Best bang for the buck pickups - your opinion!

Sense a few of us are going off the 'value' proposition here and just chucking in our favourite brands... Yeah, I'd noticed that too - I intended this as a discussion on the best of the budget pickups, i.e. anything from the big mass produced brands downwards rather than boutique stuff! I'd still s...

Re: 16 ohm cab and Terror Bass 1000

Andy- what was the UK bass cab company you linked in that other thread? Their stuff looks to be pretty amazing. I think the company you're after is Barefaced. Their cabs are quite expensive but very good. For a single cab that will handle the TB1000's output you could also look at the SP410 of cour...

A killswitch is incredibly easy to fit if you're looking for more mods for the sake of it!

Re: G12T75 speakers, do they really suck that bad?

My friend has a JCM2000 DSL100 and standard 1960A with G12T75s - he gets some really cool tones that work perfectly in his band, though I've also heard that exact same rig sound horrible when played by other guys in other bands. I once tried my AD30TC through a 1960A and it was the worst I'd ever he...

Re: 16 ohm cab and Terror Bass 1000

I can't think of any manufacturer who makes 16 ohm bass cabs, the standard for most bass gear is 8 or 4 ohms and most bass amps have taps for those ratings. Better to stick to either of those.

You get a higher specced MIJ than an MIA Gibson at whatever price point you choose, so I'd still say yes! ;)

I do also love Rio Grande, they're more in the 'upper mid' price bracket in the UK though. Muy Grandes are my favourite single coils :)

SPEAKER COMPARISON WITH CLIPS - V30, G12T75, Greenback etc

As a lot of people seem to be asking about the differences between speakers currently, I thought I'd share some clips that I downloaded from another forum many moons ago. The original thread is long gone AFAIK. http://www.mediafire.com/?ac7dxibioq08yjj The test rig is an 18w Marshall which is played...

Re: New Speakers, or New Cab?

I don't know about in the States, but often here in the UK you can pick up whole loaded cabs used for less than the price of the speakers - particularly on local collection only Ebay auctions. Just a thought!

Best bang for the buck pickups - your opinion!

I've been through a shedload of aftermarket pickups in recent years in search of the right ones for me, from cheap-as-chips to boutique and from very low to very high output. I have to say, out of all the pickups I've tried I think my favourite humbuckers are Tonerider Alnico IV Classics. They just ...

Re: Orange Craving

yeah, i wonder what the reasoning behind that is anyways. does AD supposedly stand for something? I've read that the AD range was named that way for their designer, Ade Emsley. They could've stuck to the trad Orange naming convention and called them OR30 or something, but then I guess they were new...

Re: Orange Craving

I guess the AD30 isn't much like a Vox AC30 in overall tone, but it does share some inherent characteristics. That responsiveness to your playing is definitely there, plus of course the chimey EL84 thing and saggy, compressed character. But the AD30 has a dark, fuzzy sort of character compared to th...
