Re: Suggestions for a new acoustic?

Joe, I do trust you, and you're not the first to mention the Faith. My old guitar teacher recommended the venus too. Now I'm too curious not to give it a shot  Off to dolphin music in Liverpool to try out a load tomorrow, looking forward to it. I doubt they'll have the Faith but I know they h...

Re: Suggestions for a new acoustic?

Hey Bob. Yeah, I know. I can't really justify a full blown splurge at the moment though, especially because it's only going to be used for recording demos. I could go to 500 if it's going to make a big difference? I know very little about the acoustic market, having played electric almost exclusivel...

Suggestions for a new acoustic?

Hi guys, long time no see  I'm looking for a new acoustic guitar, something with a neutral, maybe slightly mellow tone that's going to record well. I don't really want to spend any more than £300 so I'd be willing to buy used. I'll mainly be using it for recording demos to send to band mates ...

Re: OT: Legal ages?

The legal smoking age in the UK was raised not so long ago, from 16 to 18.

Manchester Orchestra

Somebody told me to listen to this band ages ago and I didn't until today. Jesus Christ what a band! Listen to I've Got Friends - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X66k0BL5faQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Reminds me of Bends era Radiohead, but if they'd been heavier...and American ;)

Re: This year's MVP

I tend to swing by every so often these days but I used to hang out here a lot. Every time I come back it's the same guys giving such good advice and keeping the forum a nice place to visit. You all know who you are  I think Brian and Blackcloud45 deserve a mention here, and I'd like to thank ...

Re: Okay lads, help me spend some $$$

I can't stop listening to Mew at the moment. Frengers is a fantastic album and the new one (which has a ridiculously long name) is very interesting.

Kayo Dot as well. The Manifold Curiosity is such a beautiful, amazing, moving piece of music.

Re: voice coil rubbing ???

They should be stiff when new but they shouldn't rub. All that will happen is they'll distort because they can't reproduce the waveform in its entirety = clipping. That's not acceptable in a new speaker. If they sound ok then I guess that's all that matters, but if they're definitely rubbing then th...

Re: empress super delay vs TC ND1....

I have a Nova Delay and it's a pretty cool pedal. The tape setting also introduces a subtle distortion on the repeats and by messing with the modulation you can create some pretty cool wow and flutter effects if that's your bag. The pattern selector is a god send, but what made me buy it is the tap ...

Re: Recommend me a stereo delay ;)

Cheers Josh, will let you know how it goes! Sometimes it's good to work through the theory on these things... but in the end, my guiding principle is to just try it and judge with my own ears :) There have been plenty of occasions both live and in the studio when I've tried things which fly in the ...

Yeah, that'd look/sound weird actually :P I think even a few clicks either side should get rid of the problem (if there is a problem). In any case, hope it works out, sounds like a cool setup :D

Re: Recommend me a stereo delay ;)

Right, stop talking bollocks Josh, and tell us what you just said. Haha! Sorry sorry sorry! OK. This is easier for me to explain if you think of it in terms of mixing. Say I've got two tracks of guitar, both recorded at the same time with two different mics. Although there will be variati...
