Re: World Cup

Another great performance from England. I'm not going to get bitter about it though, we were completely outclassed by the Germans. It's been unbelievable watching England throughout this world cup. You watch these guys playing in the Premier League and it's a totally different ball game. Offensively...

Re: Best professional Analog to Digital stereo converter?

Totally depends on your budget as to whether you'll hear a major difference or not. As long as your room is up to scratch you should notice a slight increase in clarity with a mid-priced ADC. I have an RME ADI-2 that I upgraded to from an Mbox 2. The RME sounds noticeably clearer, less "foggy" but i...

Re: sound separation (rant)

"Yeah but it's one louder!" It's funny when you get guys with solid state amps (usually just starting out) who think that they need to crank it for "that cranked sound". I always feel inclined to ask them exactly what that cranked sound is. "Er...it just sounds better man, you know. Like more big, y...

Re: Dialing in Your Amp(s)

+1 for less bass live. Less treble too. Think of it in terms of a full band. Kick and bass fill out the low end, vocals and cymbals eat up a lot of the high end and upper mids. Your guitar wants to be low mid range to upper mid range. That's where the clarity and tone are. The sound engineer will mo...

Re: Live sound: cranking a channel of a two channel amp?

It really depends on how drastic the volume drop is. Compression will certainly help to smooth the difference out to some degree but only if the volume difference isn't absolutely crazy. See if you can find a compromise where the sound is still good but the master volume isn't quite so high. If you ...

Haha I think it's cool when bands break stuff. Still love the footage of Krist Novoselic at the VMA's in '93 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8oT9ag631Q" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I needed to make as much noise as possible and I couldn't fit a drum kit in my room.

Unfortunately for fear of being blinded I can't fully open my eyes while looking at them. However they do look pretty through this dark, watery blur. :mrgreen:

Definitely outrageous. Beautiful finish though.

Gotta love that photo, Josh... sort of looks like you've just pulled out a nostril hair... Hahaha yeah it's a good bad one I think! :lol: It's from a festival I played with my old band in Skegness. It was hilarious - they set out plastic tables and chairs like we were playing outside a restaurant. ...

I didn't know about this. That's ace! One of my favourite bands of that era. The guitarist in my new band sounds uncannily like Jeremy Enigk when he sings. Got me back listening to them again.

Re: Getting a computer for recording ... Words of wisdom?

I've used Garageband a bit, still use it a lot actually for bouncing mp3s (Pro Tools LE doesn't let me do this unless i shell out more money for it!) It's a cool program, very user friendly and allows you to get things done quickly. Helps keep the vibe alive. In the long run you may want to think of...

Re: Now Offering Mastering …

Mastering isn't just about sweetening, it's also the final "quality control" stage in the process. A fresh set of (experienced) ears and a totally different agenda to a producer or an engineer/mix engineer. It's all about consistency, fidelity and spectral balance. The best MEs will make a mix sound...
