You cannot put EL84's in the amp, unless you get the yellow jacket tube converters.

That certainly is a pain in the a$$. The cable causing the oscillation makes sense to me. It also makes sense to me that they might not of been able to hear it the first time as the cable 'could' move around during shipping, also depending what cable it is, the power source could be better/cleaner ...

I'm very curious to find out how well this worked for you as I have a Rockerverb 50 MKII head and have a very weak, EQ nightmare of a sound coming out of my Dirty channel as well.
