Re: Slash amp comment

i've had marshalls forever. i have at least one of each major design right now; several of many. over the years there's not one i haven't had. i have 2 sl5's and they are the best marshall's, all things considered i've ever had. i'll go farther; the sl5 is probably the best amp period, "all things c...

Re: Looking for guidance

my personal opinion is the dual terror is probably the most useful of all orange amps.

that's a broad statement, but i stand by it. i suppose that could mean most "versatile".

Re: music studio/office move

not gear related however... i'm moving my office/music room to the basement to give my wife a better workspace/studio upstairs 1. had to move so much crap outta there including a 275 gallon kerosene tank. 2. gutted the room - new insulated walls over block and open cell spray foam in the ceiling. i...

Re: OT: Computer help

do you have a cpu meter installed, so you can see the amount of cpu usage? if so, you can isolate applications and processes and see what's choking it down. but from the way you describe it you've got some dodgy drivers dealing with RAW files. also, your MB might not be up to snuff. it happens, desp...

Re: Orange Rocker 30 for Classic Rock and Blues?

for blues, particulary cranked master volume white-boy blues, try an ac30. taylor made for it, it seems. single coil and humbuckers. it does a terrific job.

also, since you're marshall fans, try the sl5 for the same thing, if you haven't.

just a thought.

Re: Orange AND Marshall

you'll notice some difference. a lot of it will depend on the room you're playing. the marshall will cut better at equal volumes. if you're not playing at high enough volume to get the bottom end of an orange, you may end up using the marshall more. a dsl will do you fine, as will the others mention...

Re: Most versatile amps ever

puck, i've been circling the carol ann stuff myself. in fact, i've imagined that, with a fuchs ods, and carol ann el34 amp, damn near everything is covered in those two amps. over the years i've seen quite a few dedicated marshall, boogie, and other die-hards jump ship to a good dumble style circuit...

Re: Most versatile amps ever

i'm with puckhog on the versatile thing in mentioning the dumble clone. that's why i mentioned the fuchs ods. those amps are extremely quiet and have a huge range available. very large in sound if room micing. i wouldn't have a studio without one. and for putups or shutups, i have a fuchs 4 aces and...

Re: Most versatile amps ever

for that cash: fuchs ods 50 marshall jtm 45 marshall 800 or dsl fender twin orange tv50 vox ac30 there's some overlap, but these will cover the gamut as far as what can be relied on in the input signal. all are reliable. some more low noise than others. read the above post i did on wattage. i didn't...

Re: Most versatile amps ever

for studion usage the wattage of the amp matters for two broad reasons: clean headroom assurance how a cab is miced. if you're micing close to the cab or in an iso cab, small and medium wattage is all that is needed. [distorted amps] if you're going for a large room effect with mics placed throughou...

Re: Mic Placement on Orange PPC212 CB?

initial caveat: RECORDED sound and LIVE sound are different species. most of the time, a recorded sound is much different than "live" regardless where you put the mic. knowing how to use your daw is an absolute must. the key is not so much how the raw recording sounds, but rather, is all the necess...

Re: new amp order [not fruit]

the casino line is, i think, the bomb, and will likely make a statement. the modded twin i played was magical. fuchs offers the lucky 7 model with a single el34 in the power stage. after the four aces, its likely my next purchase. i'll do some clips when i get the aces and give a review as best i ca...
