Re: OT: Guitar build

Thirded on learning on the Squier. My first refinishing job was on a Fender American Standard Tele when I was 17 AND I picked a Gibson Goldtop paint which is a pretty temperamental paint. It was a stupid decision, and I was incredibly lucky it turned out alright. Could have been horrible. I would HI...

Re: 1974 Fender Precision Bass - Pawn Shop Treasure

If I did decide to keep it, what kind of modifications should I do / not do to make it a better player. I just don't want to do something that could potentially lessen the value if I sold it later on. I was thinking about getting a nicer pickup, and getting a bridge cover. I'd also like to give it a...

Re: 1974 Fender Precision Bass - Pawn Shop Treasure

Just a quick update.. The store I e-mailed was Austin Vintage Guitars. I got an e-mail back from them saying that the finish looked a little rough (which is definitely true haha), so they would probably sell it for $13-1400 in their store as is. That was pretty cool to hear. If I could make a grand ...

Re: 1974 Fender Precision Bass - Pawn Shop Treasure

Thanks for all the info guys. I'll definitely look into getting it period correct whether I decide to keep it or sell it. Glad to know that I got a good deal on it. I did put an ad on Austin and Dallas craigslist as well as sent a quick email to a vintage guitar store in Austin to see if anyone is i...

1974 Fender Precision Bass - Pawn Shop Treasure

Hey guys. It's been a while. Yesterday I found this sweet bass hanging up in a local Waco, TX pawn shop. All the guy could tell me was it was a U.S. made Fender. I offered him $400 not knowing anything else about it other than it worked and it looked cool. He countered at $425, and we struck a deal....

Re: New Guitar! - Sweet Gibson Content

The pickups sound great. For an extra $100 over a normal standard, the upgrades are WELL worth it in my opinion.

Re: New Guitar! - Sweet Gibson Content

Sweet I'll look into the WD stuff and pull the trigger once I get back up at school. I'll be sure to update this whenever I get the new pickguard.

Re: New Guitar! - Sweet Gibson Content

I've always loved white Gibsons and how they age over time. I'm so excited to keep the guitar long enough to get that soft yellow in the future. The '61 RIs are definitely sweet guitars. If a good deal ever comes around here I may snag one up, but for now this baby is all I need. (Fender American Te...

Re: New Guitar! - Sweet Gibson Content

Hey boss, where'd you get that pickguard? It looks mint green or cream. Can't really tell. There's so many dealers online that I can't pick the right one.

Also, any pickguard color suggestions? (I may get a black & silver paisley pickguard)

Re: New Guitar! - Sweet Gibson Content

I searched every guitar store in Dallas, Austin and Houston in person over the last week looking for a different pickguard because that's the one thing I don't mesh with well. 3 stores out of 20 had SG pickguards. 2 of those stores only had the black. The one other store that had a full face SG pick...

Re: New Guitar! - Sweet Gibson Content

Yeah I went in with an expired 15% MusiciansFriend coupon. I guess they wanted to meet a sales quota / go home because it was 30 minutes after they were supposed to close when I finally signed the receipt.

New Guitar! - Sweet Gibson Content

Hey guys. Finally pulled the trigger on a new Gibson SG Standard with coil taps. This model comes with an ebony fretboard, coil tapped Burstbuckers, and most importantly (to me) is finished in a sweet white / cream color. Absolutely lovely. I actually bought it a week ago, but I held off showing you...

This just popped up on Dallas, Texas craigslist. It's a les paul though. But the price is $600 USD.
