Re: AD15 & AD30 anyone using mercury Transformers?

Thanks Andy, been getting on with life and watching my daughter grow up! Hey Bill... I swapped the OT out first but left everything else the same initially to do a bit of an A/B comparison, so that's where my impressions came from. At various times, i'd swapped the power valves to Harma E84L (slight...

Re: AD15 & AD30 anyone using mercury Transformers?

I had an AD30R that I did the upgrade on from the Trace era, although I fitted a Demeter tranny rather than a MM one. I chatted to Ade about it before doing so, and whilst he said there wasn't much difference between the MM and Demeter (ie. just a shade of flavouring that you would otherwise be able...

Always good to have a Dues - i've loved my Starplayer TV since I got it. It just works.

Re: NPD - POD HD500X

I've got the standard HD500... Quick tip: it's going to sound verrrry different through headphones / laptop speakers to your PA, so it's worth having a diddle with it hooked up to your desk and PA rig one day. I spent an afternoon dialling in some patches with my old AD30 next to me, and by the time...

Re: OR15 and maxon od808=modernish metal?

Should work OK - I used to have an OD808... worked fine for liquid lead sounds: will take you anywhere from lighter-waving light solos to heavier sounds if you layer it the right way.

Re: Matamp 4x12 for Rockerverb 50 MK II?

Hot 100s are fine with Orange or Matamp - tried them with both. Not as nice as some of the higher end Celestions, but fine all the same...

I use yellow cabling for all of mine... never come across anyone else with it yet.

Re: Rant about guitarists/guitar techs/customer service reps

Chalk it up to experience: maybe he was just having a bad day too.

And put it this way... one good reason to learn to do your own regular tech work! Aside from levelling frets, I do pretty much everything on my acoustics & electrics now. Will save yourself a heap of cash.

Re: Dead pickup?

If the cables are too short, get some other lengths of wire or cabling and just touch them together using crocodile clips, electrical tape or whatever so you can extend the pickup wires. You can trace a short if you know what you're doing, but as you're asking, i'm guessing the answer is no! You bas...

Re: Dead pickup?

Take the pickup cables and - if they reach - hold them directly to the hot & ground terminals on the output jack. Plug in a cable and hit the strings.

That'll tell you if it's the pickup or your soldering / volume pot.

Re: ad30 and balanced pre amps for the phase invertors

Twin channel, I guess you mean?

No, the valves don't need to be balanced either way. Just shove in whatever sounds best. It's a bit of a fudge by sellers to tell you that they do.

Re: Best value in instrument cables?

They look like Neutrik plugs on some sort of cabling with 'armour plating'. Can't vouch for the cabling failure rate, but the plugs should be solid. Look good as long as they're not overpriced.
