Re: Rockerverb Alternative?
I have never got along with PRS Guitars and Mark Tremonti is not my cup of tea but I recently tried out the PRS MT15 at my local music store and was blown away. The loudest 15 watt amp I have ever tried. It is so punchy and full. The clean channel is dynamic and responds very quickly to changes in s...

Re: Recording an Orange Amp
I have a Mesa Cab Clone that I never really got along with until I saw a video on how to use EQ to get it to more closely match a Mic'd amp. Adding EQ is a big improvement and using the cab clone is great for recording ideas late at night when the family is sleeping but I still use a mic when I'm re...

I like SIT power wounds. .10 on my electrics and SIT Silencers on my Acoustics.

Re: Digital Delays
I am not a fan of Line 6's amp modeling stuff but their delays are great. There is a reason the DL4 is so popular and on so many pro boards. I upgraded to the M9 just because I like the fact that it can be midi synced or tap tempo'd.

Agree with Boy_Narf. That demo doesn't do it for me either. But overdrive pedals are like Ice Cream everybody has their favorite flavor.

Re: OT: Finally got a sub for my "mixing" setup :D
My reference monitors are pretty good, but I always make a mix to go play in the car Me too. I mix headphones, monitors and then car. I can't think of how many times I've thought I had the perfect mix only to realize it sucks when I play it in my car. I think part of it is you're concentrating on d...

Re: Best way to record an Acoustic? I need some advice.
I really like to use a ribbon mic at around the 12th fret. Ribbon mics sound great with any stringed instrument. I always record the guitar parts twice with the guitar tracks panned left and right. It sounds crazy but I always use a different gauge pick for the second track. Using different pick gau...

Re: Yamaha Thr10C
I have a THR10 and I think it is a great practice amp. The cleans sound really good and the reverb is great. The reverbs are so good I wish Yamaha would make a reverb pedal with the plate and hall reverbs from the THR series. The acoustic and bass setting are better than I expected as well. The cont...

Re: Direct recording sounds thin
I've tried a bunch of different things, direct recording, SM57, condenser mic, SM57 + condenser mic (with room mic in various places) but my best results have come from using a single ribbon mic 5-6 inches from the speaker. Ribbon mics have low output but that is not a problem if you have a decent m...

Re: Help a brotha out?
Very late to the party but I'd like to recommend a few unconventional solos. First my favorite guitar solo of all time. Sonic Youth's "Incinerate". The whole song is great and highly underrated. The guitar solo is not the most technical and like most Sonic Youth songs it is in a crazy tuning but it ...

Re: Pedal to "sparkle up" the Dark Terror circuit?
I recommend the Xotic SP compressor pedal. Love that thing. It is the quietest compressor I've ever used. The blend knob is so handy and set low it can make the effect very subtle. That's mostly the way I use it. I leave it on almost all the time. Great for adding that little bit of sparkle to your ...

Re: OT: Programmed Drums On An EP?
EZDrummer is great. I've been using it for years. I highly recommend upgrading to EZDrummer 2. The vintage kit it comes with is great. In EZDrummer 2 You can mix and match drums and cymbals from different kits, add reverb, emulated tape delay, you can control the volume of each drum or cymbal indivi...

Re: NPD Xotic SP Compressor
Yeah, I have one of these and it's great. Super quiet. Love the blend knob. Great on bass or guitar. My only complaint is that I wish the controls for the attack and release time were easier to access. They make a big difference. Of course then it would not be so small.

Re: Silently(ish) recording - iso cab or cab sim?
I have amplitude, and yes, orange models are surprisingly good. But I was going for something that would allow me to play and record my amps, you know? Thanks a lot for the help man! Cheers Hmm, maybe I am doing something wrong. I have the Ampiltube rocker and ad30 models but have never liked them....

Re: Silently(ish) recording - iso cab or cab sim?
I have a cab clone. I didn't get along to well with it at first but then I added an EQ to my chain and used to it to boost the highs. That made a huge difference. Using a reverb with around 100ms predelay also helps. It is still not as good as a mic'd speaker but it is close enough for late night pr...
