Re: impedance question
Odd. Mesa actively encourages impedance mismatching as it provides a slightly different tonality. They also ship the Lonestar classic (100-watt amp) in 1x12 form with a C90 (90-watt speaker).

Re: Which Orange Amp?
Thanks for info...think I'm going to check out the Rocker with a view to buy (especially at the price it's being offered at) Given no effect loops, or 2nd channel dirt channel, how are people getting a volume boost rather than gain boost with this amp? i.e can the Rocker be used for rhythm/lead eas...

Re: Rocker 30 gain/tube question
I use a Rocker 30 for post rock/hardcore/progressive metal and it works fine without pedals. Are you playing single coils? Try a higher output pickup. https://soundcloud.com/modestnews/float Fast-forward to around 4:50 and you will hear a stock LPJ into a Rocker 30 combo (no pedals/plugins). R30C h...

Re: Which Orange Amp?
From what I’ve heard the Rocker30 might have been an option, but these seem quite rare to come across, hence my interest in the AD30 or Rockerverb.....now think AD30 would give a bit more versatility. They pop up on Facebook marketplace and reverb from time to time. I just sold mine 4 months ago. A...

Re: Opinions on Orange amps
I've loved my oranges, but I've never gotten along with the crush series. Have you considered buying used. Not sure what your budget is or what tone you are going for, but there are some reasonably priced second hand chinese tube amps worth looking into. The used orange valve stuff is just a bit mor...

Re: Rocker 30 gain/tube question
I had both a R30 and AD30HTC for ten years. I retubed both of them from top to bottom. The R30 at 1 o'clock is basically the AD30HTC at 2 o'clock as far as gain. To be fair that is A LOT OF GAIN. After that it just gets loose. I've tracked plenty of beatdown riffs on the R30 and less is more. If tha...

Re: New Amp... Rockerverb 50 MKi VS Rocker 30
You can get a R30 in the $700's. Not sure what the MKI's cost. However, the Rocker 30 has a far superior OD for punk. It's much less compressed and cuts better. It reminds me of a hot rodded JCM 800. Plenty of gain on tap too. I never jived with the MKI's as I felt like their tone just lacked charac...

Re: best way to boost (for solo) a AD30
if you are putting a boost in front of an OD channel it is only going to send more heat in to the OD circuit. There's really no good way to get a volume boost without an effects loop as you need the boost after the preamp. If you're open to mods, I imagine you could find someone to put an effect loo...

Re: impedance question
Too much is made about mismatched loads. If you run a 8ohm head into a 16 ohm cab it's fine, your tone will just sound a little more compressed. As far as mismatched cabs. A dozen years ago, accidentally miswired a 212 and ran it with a 412 for years. I think I was running an impedance of 16 on the ...

Re: Which Orange Amp?
Based on what I'm reading the only orange head I'd recommend is the AD30. You have the versatility in that amp to have a clean and drive channel, or two drive channels, or two clean channels. That is what I love about the head. It is loud enough to be the loudest thing in the band and is voiced with...

Haha! Are we still making fun of that kid that was trying to get ENGL sounds out of his Orange with a Bad Monkey (or two) in front of it? Someone should have turned him onto the METAL ZONE!

Re: I have bad news...
My guess would be that this is an effort to raise quality control to "custom shop status"... or they are getting screwed by a new union contract.
I have a four early millennium Gibsons. Mine all play and sound great so I don't plan on buying any more.

Re: Does swapping out old power tubes really improve your to
Biasing wasn't important in this situation. If he is replacing old/used-up JJ 6V6 power tubes with new JJ 6V6 power tubes then the circuitry math suggests that no variance has taken place. I always have my amps biased when I change from stock tubes to my preferred tubes. However, I trust a quality t...

Re: Who/What Infuenced You To Buy Orange?
At the time, I had a H&K Triamp MKII and Duotone and a Marshall 6100. I was tired of these "multi-tone" amps, and I just wanted something simple that master only one sound. I was just playing through amps at a local shop and ended up leaving with a Rocker 30 and an AD30HTC.
