Re: Bands U never gave shot, then epiphany moment U like em?

Jethro Tull. My dad had an album (Benefit) with Ian Anderson front cover, one legged hippy with flute - I bypassed that album for years in favour of the more obvious 60s/70s rock. Then I heard Aqualung and was instantly hooked which sparked off a longlasting interest in prog. Still an awesome album,...

Re: Who are some of the most lame of bands ever?

Scouting For Girls. Undoubtedly the lamest band in the UK recently. One trick ponies, why they get airplay beats me!

Rockerverb 50 head / fx loop

Recently bought a Barber Electrics Half Gainer to add some clean boost and drive into my sound, which is generally fairly clean. Great pedal! Noticing though it sounds at its best in front of the amp rather than in the fx loop. I also have a few other pedals and it sounds a little clearer/louder on ...

Re: Power Conditioners: Any ideas?

I'm having some issues with my Amps humming in my house... have tried all the usual things of turning off all other lights, electrics etc. Swapped out the guitars/cables etc to no avail. It leads me to think its a power issue so am wondering if a power conditioner is going to help. The hum is presen...

Re: RV50 Hum / Servicing - Power Conditioner??

Thanks Chaps for advice so far. I think the problem might actually be due to external sources... I plugged my guitar into my Roland Microcube and the hum persists there as well. So, I tried a different guitar/leads, no change. I then tried swapping the PSU to battery power... the hum went (but stran...

Re: RV50 Hum / Servicing

The reverb gets progressively noisy with the hum as you dial it in. I tried swapping the tube for the preamp one, and it didnt make much difference. With a pedal in the effects loop, there is also a hum which is worsened by switching on the pedal. So it looks like both of the 12AT7s are past their b...

Re: RV50 Hum / Servicing

Thanks Andy, I had checked out Watford Valves already so maybe I'll go for a preamp kit first, install that then see what its like. My amp was new 2005 and had a look last night and the valves are all stamped Orange so assume they're the originals - so 5 years of use - orange seem to recommend chang...

RV50 Hum / Servicing

Hi, I have a RV50 Head I'm running into a Marshall AV1960 Cab. I've owned it about 3 years and bought it secondhand, and although its in lovely condition, Ive never serviced it. A few questions I have that I hope you guys can help with: 1. The amp hums a bit when powered up. Its not a hugely ...

yeah it does make a lot of sense to know the dynamics of your main guitar to pull it out at any given moment. I always thought a second one was a good policy for live situations. The joy of 'ownership' and the collector in me makes me want to try something else but there's not much point fixing some...

Recently I just have stopped picking up my other guitars and always reach for my customshop. It just feels, plays and sounds so great that anything else at the moment just doesnt feel right. Actually its a shame cos I do like my tele and its quite versatile for our set, but I just plain prefer playi...

I dont know about that. THe intenet has made music much more widely available and accessable. I think if you're prepared to put in some time to find good acts, there's some really good music around at the moment. Sure, there's the hyped stuff from the music 'business'; but there's still lots of acts...

A digital multi effects unit is a good option as you have phones out, aux in (great for inputing your PC, disc/mp3 player and jamming along). Get a decent set of headphones and you can play as late as you like without disturbing anyone, plus all the effects give you a range of amp simulations and ke...
