Re: Non-Gibson Les Pauls

I have a soft spot for Tokai's.......I own and have owned lot's of them and never had a duff. If you buy a Jap model you can be safe ordering online or second hand because they don't usually leave the factory with any serious flaws. Maybe the odd cosmetic finish but you won't find a warped neck out ...

Re: Been bitten with the modification bug

Here's a simple little tool for polishing frets. :) Make a block of hardwood to this shape.....approx 45-50 mm long......about 25 mm high and about 5 mm in width....maple is good but as long as it is fairly hard wood it's ok. Now get a drill bit that is the same width as your frets....lay the drill ...

Re: Been bitten with the modification bug

i may get some in the future, but at the moment, i have a welders nozzle cleaner multi tool thing, it does basically the same thing, just a set of really thin files, and it was pretty cheap too Improvisation! You are well on your way to becoming a guitar Tech!! My late friend was a guitar tec...

Hold on to your Hat....there's a storm coming!!

Headroom needs power........of course a Mic can resolve that but not everbody wants to go through a PA.

Re: Been bitten with the modification bug

i was a bit nervous before hand, but it turns out it was pretty straight forward, and now i know how to do it if i ever need to change the nut on any of my other guitars too You have done a great job....worth the worrying! :D I would treat yourself to a set of nut files....a great investment and th...

Re: Been bitten with the modification bug

Cool! Well done for giving it a go! :D Some people are just not mechanically minded at all but for those who are I really do think that changing nuts, pickups, fret dressing should be learned as you go along. Learning the guitar is a musical journey and if you can learn to keep your guitar in great ...

Re: Clean headroom, Tiny Terror combo, gigging question

Apart from a Mic there is nothing you can do to increase the clean headroom. Adding more speakers will push more air but it will still be an overdriven clean..... Some amps at 15 watts can stay relatively clean because they are designed to stay clean.....and as you know the TT is really a crunchy ty...

Re: How wrong is this?

I borrowed the G-system from my local store for about 6 weeks but couldn't get it to work right. I was using the 4 cable method and my amps loop wasn't comaptible with the G system inputs. I followed "Lairds paper" to the letter but when I realised I needed impedance matchers for my loop I gave up o...

Re: Top Wrapping?

I top wrap.....I can't say I have noticed any difference in sustain but it does seem to make string tension a little less. Some say it's like you can go up a string gauge but that is total exaggeration! Most Les pauls if you screw the tailpiece down the E and B strings can touch the back of the brid...

Re: NAD: Hayden Mofo 30

Call my cynical, but I also highly doubt that Dave himself sat around hand-soldering 100 each of these two amps! That's my whole point really....he didn't. He may have fitted the PCB's in place and connected the flying leads but to me that's not "handwired"........ That doesn't take anything away f...

Re: NAD: Hayden Mofo 30

can't open it at work

Will have a look on the weekend. I'm going to go with PCB but will be happily surprised if wrong.
I really do hope it's handwired but regardless............they do sound good!
Enjoy! 8)
