Bought my RV50 in 2007. I've since tried a Rocker 30, TH30, AD30HTC. Rockerverb 50 is better sounding gain for sure. I would look for a used RV50 (original with 6V6's). You'll love it.

I'm a huge fan of the RV50; I've owned mine since '07 (bought new). It's got a great master volume and gain knob and can be dialed in to do any of the styles you mentioned. You can take the grill off the sm58 and it will be a sm57. They are the same mic, not sure if you knew that or not but figured I'd let you just in case. Possibly. I like keeping my rig on the small side. But a 4x12 might be my best option for this guy. It was plenty loud, but if I need a little extra juice at a gig, it won't have it. If you need a little more power, put a solid state rectifier in for the GZ34, they run about $10 and won't wear out....

My RV50 has always been "picky" when it comes to pedals. The clean channel has so much headroom, it's very hi-fi sounding, can be somewhat steril if you are not careful with tube/speaker selection. It is just VERY revealing....i.e. garbage in, garbage out. It makes pedals, well....sound like pedals....

The JVM205H had my interest, but after checking out tons of reviews/demos, I've pretty much decided it's not for me. The gain just doesn't sound all that great, the same bright somewhat harsh grating tone (at least to my ears).

RV50 or AD30 particularly? I set my rig up for low gain, classic rock for most of our set and want to add a really good high gain box to tightern everything up, any ideas besides the Dirty Bomb??

I've tried most of the WGS speakers (and Celstions, Scumback, Eminence, ASW, etc.). The Invader really did nothing for me. My fave WGS would have to be the Blackhawk 50 alnico, but it's $$$. There are better greenback, g12h, etc. speakers to be had. The Retro 50 was cool but has a huge bottom end an...
