Re: best way to boost (for solo) a AD30

I have found ad30s to respond really well to boosts Keep in mind the preamp compresses very early on those, so if you've already wound the gain up, with a clean or dirty boost you won't get much of a volume jump but more of a fattening up. Start off with the gain on the amp backed off a bit more and...

Re: Orange Rocker 15 Terror questions

the easiest thing you can do is play with lower gain preamp tubes before you modify anything So maybe some selected low gain stuff, or 5751s, or a 12ay7 etc. I have tried a 5751 and 12ay7 in an ad30 because the preamp vol/gain didn't do much some of the way, had a sweet spot around 2 o'clock and the...

Re: Swap 12AT7 for 5751

yeah not really. 5751s might swap with a 12ax7, 12ay7, etc but the 12at7s are specifically made for driver positions so if you need a spare, I'd buy some more 12at7s. If you're looking for JAN tubes there are general electric 12at7s around cheap, but IME the current Russian stuff is just fine All th...

Re: PULLING TWO POWER TUBES IN MY AD 30 HEAD?

If you do some googling you will see this is not possible without modifying the amp's bias circuit as stated above This is not like a jcm marshall or something where you can just pull two tubes and swap speaker outs. If you really want to do that, take it to an amp tech and have them modify it for you

Re: Orange’s grill cloth

Most certainly does filter out a lot of harsh high end I just installed some greenback clones that people on the net seem to think are too bright... they sound excellent in an orange cab and the manufacturer stated they sounded best in marshall type cabs with thick grill cloths over them, so there y...

Re: OR15 Demos. What am I missing?

Because in decent demos they mic the amps up, so once gain and levels are set you don't really have any concept of how 'loud' the amp is, just what it sounds like at the volume they present to you. It's also why after they stop playing and start talking, it sounds like they're talking at the same le...

Re: New AD30r, tube substitutions good and bad

Nup. They had 500mA fuse in it but it wasn't marked slow blow. With the right fuse it's been fine. I am glad that appears to be a user error problem rather than an issue with the amp. Yeah I happen to really like the sound of the chinese preamp tubes, I just can't seem to get my hands on any that wi...

New AD30r, tube substitutions good and bad

Hi Picked up an old ad30 reverb combo recently... had some adventures trying to get it working properly. Now that it is, I have found a preamp substitution I thought worked really well for anyone who feels their ad30 compresses too much, clips too easily or doesn't play nice with drive pedals. The a...

Re: I need a fuzz..... (TV50/AD30) HELP!

I had a lot of trouble getting a fuzz or heavy drive pedal to play nice with an AD30. The pre section on these is very compressed and it seems to clip very easily, even with the gain much lower than you intend to run it. It sounds excellent with a clean boost, but a drive with its own dirt seems to ...

Re: No glow in V1, V2, V3 & V6 in Rockerverb 50

If it helps OP, plenty of preamp tubes I have used do not glow, it's normal. From memory most of the russian new sensor tubes are like that, you just can't see the filament glowing like some other tubes.
