Re: Removing 2 of 4 tubes to get a bit more tube drive?

Thank you soooo much! I really appreciate your comments and explanation. I'm learning some for every reply you give. :-) The cab I'm considering is a OBC115, I'm thinking it will add some to the range of my OBC410. Interesting to read you comment about the slight difference perhaps not being from ru...

Re: Removing 2 of 4 tubes to get a bit more tube drive?

Thanks, great to know! The figures are stated on a sticker on the base of each tube. Are you able to draw any conclusion from these? If I run on 2 tubes - is there any way to add a second speaker 8ohm speaker? (The math tells me that would require a 2 Ohm output - but the Orange got one 8 Ohm and tw...

Re: Removing 2 of 4 tubes to get a bit more tube drive?

Hi, Now I've tried running the amp on two tubes and I do think the OD is slightly smoother and nicer, more blending with the tone. I do understand the tubes are used harder and needs to be changed more often, but is there any risks with running it on two? The tubes are 6550s and theres variation bet...

Re: Removing 2 of 4 tubes to get a bit more tube drive?

Ha, ha, ha... of course, they're outputs from the amp. Sorry. Thanks for your reply. Well I've taken the really long road on this... had numerous contacts with Orange HQ and had an Amp guru measure everything up, everything measures OK. I've been hesitant to pull those two tubes out but since I was ...

Re: Removing 2 of 4 tubes to get a bit more tube drive?

Hi, On my AD200B amp there is one 8 Ohm speakerinput and two 4 Ohm inputs. If I where to remove two poweramp tubes my 8 Ohm speaker should use a 4 Ohm input right? If I do not remove any tubes and add another 8 Ohm speaker they should use 4 Ohm inputs as well right? Does this mean that if I would re...

Re: Dating an AD15

Thanks!
I guess that's based on the 03-03 in the serial?

Dating an AD15

Hi,

Just got a AD15 and is really curious about year.
Is dating possible by serial? The serial says AD1512-1197-03-03.

Grateful if anyone can share some light on this.

Cheers!

Re: Removing 2 of 4 tubes to get a bit more tube drive?

Thanks a lot Andy & Billy, You're right about where I live Andy, I'm from Sweden. :-) I think I'll start out my quest to regain that nice tone by removing two tubes (if I can spot the difference somehow I'll remove the new ones) and run my speaker on 4 Ohm. If that was the sound I used to have, I'll...

Orange AD140 LEAD vs Orange Overdrive Series II

Hi, Considering a new tube head for guitar and I've looked at a used Orange AD140 LEAD (p-2-p Custom Shop) and a Vintage Overdrive Series II from 1979. Anyone here tried these? If so, how do they compare to each other? How would they compare with a classic Marshall? Which one would you go for? Would...

Re: Removing 2 of 4 tubes to get a bit more tube drive?

Hi,

Thanks for both replies.

What would you recommend if I where to change all four tubes?
There's a bunch of options and I don't have any experience so I'm not sure how the options affect the sound.

Cheers,

Lars

Re: Removing 2 of 4 tubes to get a bit more tube drive?

Hi Andy, Thanks for welcoming me! :-D And thanks for your reply, it's pretty much what I was hoping for. Interesting comment you gave about the new tubes perhaps not matching - it could very well be the case. I figured the difference in sound was due to I previously had two broken tubes (if so they ...

Removing 2 of 4 tubes to get a bit more tube drive?

Hi, Anyone that can share some knowledge and/or recommendation regarding removing 2 of 4 tubes in all-tube amps? I got an AD200B tube amp earlier this year and it was just awesome, whatever bass I played plugged in sounded totally amazing. Something that none of the modern Ampeg I tried could match....
