Re: What pedal am I looking for?
I think Nuno used to use a ProCo Rat....I had one back in the 80's to go with my dodgy mullet.... and it did 'that' sound rather well.

Re: Which EL34 for RV50
GT EL34Ms are not bland. They are probably one of the best stock tubes still in production. Just saying

Re: Which EL34 for RV50
I have been using Groove Tube EL34Ms for the last few years in my Cornfords. They are Chinese made and are based on the Mullard dual getter design. Sound great and have been very reliable. I think the effect of power tubes depends a lot on the amp design....ie a Marshall Plexi derives more 'tone' fr...

Re: Small vs. big amps - where to use them?
I play the 'toilet' circuit as a covers band most weekends.... there is never a house PA or miked up back line...so it's a big rig for live and and small rig for band rehearsals for me

Yep....a little (non-lubricating oooerr!) contact cleaner...down the valve bases is the way.
The #4 cleans up pretty well on the guitar volume at band rehearsal levels...but not fender clean of course....

Re: faulty tube in loop??
Hi
Could be anything on the loop...its often a faulty patch lead or cable....I'd suspect these first as you had a problem with the pedals off.
Could also be a pre-amp tube but I would think this would not be intermittent?

Re: OR15 does not sound right...at all.
Sounds like it could have been a poor contact in the tube bases ....when the tubes are moved or replaced. The contacts can corrode and the new tubes pins will make contact in different places...maybe on a dull patch. Always good to run the tubes in and out a couple of times to clean up the new conta...

Re: OR15 Gain pot mod
Hi
There is a nice thread here about preamp tubes that might be something that would work for you...and be easily reversible? http://forum.orangeamps.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=52870" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Crazy Amp Ideas
Mesa do this now with their Multi-Watt feature......you can select 2 or 4 tubes for each channel (50 or 100 watts)....patented too.Hubaxe wrote:My first thinking is "get 2 heads and a cab switch".
But the requirements make a lot of sense. I'd love to play my clean channel on 100W and the dirty on 50.

Re: Yamaha THR10? (Sorry, not particularly Orange related...
I use a THR10 for home practice and I love it. It responds well to pedals and to the guitars volume control and pickups.....remarkably like a good tube amp. It is just as good with Humbuckers as single coils. The Cab sims make a massive difference to the sound so worth using the editor to tweak thes...
