Re: Best ways to identify a 70s orange vs a 90s reissue?

Hardwired power cable is my quick go-to for identifying an original. Also different ohm and voltage switches. And I think the 90s ones had a metal back panel

Re: PPC212V.. yay or nay?..

Metric specs say 54.5 cm wide. A standard headshell is 55 cm so about 1/5 inch narrower than perfekt. Don't understand why they would do that but I could probably live with it.

So it says the Palmer is
for 16 ohm speakers, but if the cab is loaded with 8ohm speakers and it says 16 ohm on the cab then I should get the 16 ohm attenuator right?
Yes. 16 ohm output-16 ohm Pamer-16 ohm speaker cabinet.

Re: Palmer attenuator, PDI-06-16 Ohm, anyone?

I'm not an expert but I think if you're only using two 16 ohm cabs (never just one) you should get the 8 ohm version of the Palmer. Personally I'd probably only use one cab if the goal is to get the volume down.

Re: Palmer attenuator, PDI-06-16 Ohm, anyone?

I have one and I use it sometimes when I bring my old amps to rehearsal. It's not perfect. You can hear a bit of extra compression in the mids. But it doesn't sound bad. Just not quite as open. I'll probably upgrade to a Fryette Power Station or something in the load/reamp models sometime in the fut...

Re: Open or closed back cabinet

I run an open back 2x12. I never had any problems with the low end lacking and compared to the other guitarplayers closed back 4x12 I can be heard pretty good all around the rehearsalroom and not just in front of it. I will be experimenting in the future, but for now I'm satisfied.

Re: Auditioned a couple of amps with my band

On the OR, yes try different bias levels, but trust your ears. But I'd honestly suggest running it with as cool a bias as you can get away with. Techs who don't know them properly may tend to go for a 'fashionable' hotter bias and kill the sound. (And pretty quickly your valves too). Yes. You were ...

Re: Auditioned a couple of amps with my band

I've been on the lookout for a set of vintage 8 ohm g12h's since I got the OR80. I want 16 ohm 2x12s so I can run two cabs off the 8 ohm taps of my amps if I want to go full throttle. But they don't come up too often so I'm wondering if I should maybe just buy 2 new ones instead. Can' figure out if ...

Auditioned a couple of amps with my band

So I've been playing once a week with some guys from work for 5+ years. Playing Hard Rock/Punk covers mostly using my Rocker 30 and PPC212OB with Vintage 30s for maybe the last three years. In that time I've also been buying some nice amps that I've been playing by myself. So I thought I should try ...

Re: Old Orange roll call

Based on that, mine's a 90s reissue. FAC squiggle starts at the bottom, send and return are labelled in lower case. I just took a closer look at my '76 OR80 and it looks just like yours. Lower case lettering on send and return + squiggly line starts on the bottom... So I guess yours could be from t...

Re: Old Orange roll call

My 1976 OR80. Love it. Really want to find a proper old head sleeve for it though. Nice amp! Have you thought about covering the head sleeve it's in? The proper Orange basketweave tolex is available. And you can get Vox style corner, which I believe are correct for the round over. Vintage Marshall ...

Re: Need help switching between gain settings on an OR15

Agreeing on the volume knobs on the guitar. But I use a MxR micro amp to cheat sometimes. If you got your volume down and quickly need a gain boost; step on it. Works great. It also works if you're on full volume to get you a bit higher if needed for a solo. I found I acually have zero problem being...

Re: First post/Replacement Head-shell

I got a spare headshell from a guitarstore here in sweden. Another guy ordered it for his amp but changed his mind before it arrived so I got a deal on it. Sadly it's the larger version so it's too deep for my or80. But someday I'll get a tablesaw and cut it down to size. What I'm trying to say is t...
