Re: Old beast after tidy up (1969 ORST)

As an ORST owner myself I started saving all the pictures I can find of other ones than mine. I see that I already have pictures of #028. One of them is quite odd. It was taken with the faceplate off and underneath it's written with a felt pen "Bullsh!t" (with an i) with two arrows pointing at the D...

Re: Phase inverter

(The Retro 50 is the sole definite exception to this that I know of. I don't know what the AD50 uses). http://www.valvewizard.co.uk/acltp.html Just saw this post. Haven't read any of the other. The Marshall 2061X has that same PI. I've been having issues on and off for years about something ...

Re: RV50 MK1 Reverb Problem

My guess is that it's the pot itself that is the culprit. Try connecting a jumper cable from the middle lug of the pot to R63 (1M) or R64 (220K). Try both sides of any of these resistors. The reverb will now be on full blast as the pot isn't controling the circuit anymore. If the hum goes away you k...

Re: ORANGE/MATAMP OR200 "Capacitors"

Take the amp to a tech and have him do this for you. Do not attempt to replace them yourself. The filter caps in a tube amp are the most hazardous parts in the amp.

Re: ORANGE/MATAMP OR200 "Capacitors"

That amp is 35+ years old. I highly recommend to swap all electrolytic caps in that amp even if they weren't deformed or even if they'd still operated normally. If someone would claim that it would lower the value of the amp because the new caps aren't original, just tell them to 'eff off, because t...

Re: Dark Terror Choke

Both the Marshalls 1974X and 2061X does not have chokes fitted. Out of curiousity I bought a Mercury Magnetics choke designed for these amps. I had read on different forums about the "massive" difference in tone; how fatter and punchier and yada yada bla bla... Being in a studio with re-amping gear ...

Re: Orange Matamp SN: 300

I'm very late to see this one. I can only see two of the pictures now. The Ormats were only three models: ORST (2 EL34, 50 watts), OR100 (4 EL34, 100 watts) and the OR200 (4 KT88 I believe, 200 watts). I remember reading that the OR100 did push out a bit over 100 watts, but not as much as 120. More ...

Re: Will using a boost in the loop do any damage?

If you put the boost in front of the amp, you will push the pre amp (small tubes). The higher gain setting you have set on the amp, the less volume increase you get, but the tone will distort more. If the gain setting is low, you'll achieve a push in volume and just a little grainier tone. If you pu...

Re: VT1000: Can I Trust the Results?

I have a VT-1000 a I did write a review on about it when I got it. It's posted on this forum somewhere. I think I recall mentioning some wierd things about it as well..? Anyway. I do have a pair of Philips EL84 that worked fine in the amp, but when I tested them they both failed in the test. I haven...
