Re: OR15 - constant 50hz hum

My OR15 has a very quiet hum, can't hear it once you get a couple of meters away from the cab.

Re: Dual Dark - 48 hours in...

I really hate the fact that Orange call their PPIMV an Attenuator, its not an Attenuator in the "usual" sense of the word when talking about guitar amps and it has a completely different effect to a real attenuator that allows the output tubes to distort at lower volumes.

Nice amp though :)

Re: No sound from TH30 (updated with pics and new details)

Replacing the fuse holder is a simple job. It may even have spade connectors on the inside which means you won't even need a soldering iron. You will have to make sure the amp is safe to work on though, a simple multi-meter to check there is no high voltage on it before you start. If in any doubt th...

Re: Reverb/Delay Pedal for TH-100

I'm using a Strymon Flint for verb (it has tremolo too) and its very nice. I use a Carbon Copy for delay which I find works well in the loop for high gain stuff.

Re: OR15

Well funnily enough I made it open back this afternoon. I also tried a G12M in there but preferred the Mesa V30 which is unusual for me. I normally find V30's a bit too bright but this one seems ok.

Re: OR15

Greenbacks are less aggressive/ modern sounding than the V30. They are only 25W too so break up better with smaller amps. The 3rd stage of the RV is biased with a 2k2 resistor. The OR15 ( and Dark Terror) use a 1k5 resistor. The treble caps in the RV are 1nF and the OR15 uses 470pF. The fixed resist...

Re: OR15

I did like my Dark Terror, this OR is just a bit more suited to the classic rock sounds though. Th tone stack has shaped its overall sound to be a bit more middy. I have swapped out the JJ 12AX7's for some Tubestore 7025's and this has shifted it even further into classic rock territory. http://www....

OR15

Picked up one of these OR15's, been after one for a while. Had a poke about inside, 3rd gain Stage is biased differently from the RV / JR#4 its the same as the Dark Terror, in fact the whole amp is pretty much a Dark Terror with proper tone controls. Treble tone control caps are twice the size of RV...

Re: Tube Problem, or something else?

If you are using footswitch try removing the footswitch and see if that helps. If it does then it could be a problem with the FS contacts. I had the same issue, it turned out out to be a dodgy FS lead which was causing only some of the internal relays to operate which meant no sound.

Re: Are tube amps louder than solid state..

In simple terms...

If you are dissipating 10 watts into a speaker from a tube or transistor amp the volume is the same.

The way that solid state amps and tube amps are labelled/rated is what makes tube amps seem louder for their stated wattage.

Re: Changing preamp valves in dark terror

You have to have a tube in the loop or you'll get no sound at all.
