Re: Convince me to keep my TH30

If 30W isn't enough for you then 50 won't be enough. There will be a difference but it won't be big enough and you might not even notice it. If 30 isn't enough go 100. You said you owned one already but 50 isn't gonna make things much better. However, the TH30 I owned was damned loud, I never had is...

Re: Live and in Action - Original Orange Rocker vs. Rocker 15.....

Sadly I’m not surprised. The various terrors are great amps but I’ve never heard them in a live setting opposite a big bottle amp and found it sounded as rich and powerful. It wasn’t a matter of volume but of frequency response and richness of tone. Mind you, these experiences were all in heavier mu...

Re: Low watt EL34 question

Just get the or50 then. The volume difference (perceived) is minimal between a 30 and 50 amp. Come to think of it, you won’t be able to crank the or15 significantly more than the 50 anyways (it is loud). So just get the 50.

Re: Incoming NAD!!!! I'm pretty stocked!!!!

Looks like the Inside of my former Diablo: sturdy, well made stuff. The retainers, while being a pain in the buttocks to work fast, are amazing IMHO, secure as heck. You already know but I'll say it again: that brand knew how to build reliable/robust amps and they were great quality. They just, imho...

Re: Incoming NAD!!!! I'm pretty stocked!!!!

Or course, my point was simply that they built incredibly high-quality gear across their line-up. The Diablo, while very modern, was very versatile considering it was a 2-channel amp. The Pearl, from what I remember was much more vintage-oriented but sounded godly too and, based on the diablo, would...

Re: Incoming NAD!!!! I'm pretty stocked!!!!

I used a Genz Benz El Diablo combo for about 5 years and it was a killer amp. Their stuff was really underrated.
I remember loving the Black Pearl I heard back then and still hope to find a head locally someday on the cheap.

Congrats!

Re: Orange OR15 — is it totally dead? Help!

Interesting... the HT fuse looked perfectly fine and yet, when I replaced it briefly (about 5s of operation) with a 0.5mA (instead of a .25 which I didn't have on hand) it fixed the problem.

So the fuse blew... I'm thinking problematic tube somewhere...

Re: Orange OR15 — is it totally dead? Help!

Hey folks, love the sound of my Orange OR15 but have had a few issues with it over the past couple years. And now I'm worried it may have met its maker. It was working just fine during band practice last night, and then all the sudden... nothing. Came back from a bathroom break, kicked it off stand...

Re: A higher wattage or15

People over here will do a lot to convince you that what I'm about to say isn't true but whatever... The OR15 is my 4th orange. I've previously owned: TH30, Rocker 30 and TV50. There are a LOT of similarities between the tones of a TH30 and the OR15... a lot. I've felt this way ever since I bought t...

Re: Guitar prices in Canada...

Tell me about it. Gear is insane at the moment. On the other hand, that was the kick in the pants I needed to start building amps from scratch (buying parts solely from this side of the border) instead of buying kits from the US.

Yeah, they are the same thing as far as the dirty channel of the TH goes. Just keep the TH, you have the same power options (plus the 30W of course) and a killer clean channel...

Re: Sad parting - and wheeling and dealing....

Sometimes you have to be realistic enough. I did the same thing with my AD5. After getting the AD15 and not switching it on in 3 month, I realised I had no need for it anymore. Yeah, it's not fun realizing that you own something really cool and that you're not doing it justice by letting it collect...

Re: Sad parting - and wheeling and dealing....

I feel your pain. I'm lucky, it's been a while since I've "had" to sell anything, even with two kids. Most of my decisions to sell gear are mainly due to the fact that I "feel" that I should own less gear than I do... it's a strange kind of guilt, considering that everything I own was either built b...

Re: How different is the TH100 dirt from the Rocker 30?

Well, let's agree to disagree then because I could easily cover very similar territories with both dirty-channel-wise. Sure they can sound very dissimilar if need be but they could also be very very close. Again, it depends on what you're looking for in terms of tone but my experience both at home a...
