Re: Best value in instrument cables?

I've been using Fulltone cables for several years now and they've never failed and have always sounded great. Very well priced for the quality, too.

Re: OTR 120

Looks like a gorgeous amp. Much better construction than the new ones. Here's some info from the Orange site: This amplifier is the Overdrive 120 4 x EL34 enhanced by eighteen modifications. Introduced in 1997, OTR stands for Oscillatory Transition Return. The OTR 80 is the 2 x EL34 version. The ver...

12ax7 Comparison

I've accumulated a modest stash of preamp tubes (mostly NOS or ANOS) over the past couple years, and yesterday I finally got around to comparing a few of them in V1 of my Retro 50. I figure I'll roll a few at a time and post my results over the next couple of weeks. Guitars used were: -1984 MIJ Fend...

Re: Unmolested OR120?

Wow. Amazing reply. Thanks a million. Saved it should be, but unfortunately I'm not the one to do it -- unless I can get them to drop at least $500 off the price tag.

Unmolested OR120?

Attention tech guys: Can any of you tell me if this amp has had any mods or replacement parts? Thanks!

Do you hear it when you play clean at the same volume?

Re: OR100H and Custom 50 vid from NAMM

[quote="dreamdistortion" If the HF drive defeats the master volume like on the OR50, that would be a huge plus. I don't quite understand what you mean by this, can you explain a little more? Turning the HF all the way up doesn't turn off the MV, which is what I think of when I read "defeat". It jus...

Re: OR100H and Custom 50 vid from NAMM

I'm sure the Custom 50 will sound amazing. If the HF drive defeats the master volume like on the OR50, that would be a huge plus. I consistently run my Retro 50 with the volume cranked. You can hear and feel the master "engage" at about 12 o'clock and start adding clarity, punch and thickness to the...

Re: OR100H and Custom 50 vid from NAMM

Orange also seems to be going astray from it's philosophy of simple designs, in an effort to make Swiss Army Knife amps like the OR100H. A certain market will segment will always demand feature-packed gizmo amplification, but appeasing that demographic puts the essence of Orange at stake, IMO.

Re: OR100H and Custom 50 vid from NAMM

Ade did not compare the Custom 50 to the OR50, as folks on the board are doing (though it's understandable given that controls are the same). He said that it's basically a Retro 50 with presence and HF drive. The Retro was designed to sound like a Pix Only, so the vintage flavor is there. It is a bi...

Re: Spongy powertubes?

Speakers have a huge effect on the amp feel too. Small magnet speakers (g12M or g1265) will make the amp much more spongy feeling than, say, V30s. Compressor is probably the best suggestion, though.

Beautiful. Thanks for posting. Since they are virtually identical, you should "free" one to the market for someone else to enjoy.

Re: Starting to GAS for a Retro 50

I love the Retro. It's full of tones, from sweet, chimey cleans to snarling overdrive. Handles dirt pedals with aplomb, as well. I've been feeding a Big Cheese and Barber LTD into it. Souns killer, even with the amp set to deliver some grit. I was actually able to compare the Retro directly with a "...

Re: Best 2x12 cab (and speakers!!) for a retro 50 and TTHW

Grab an Orange cab, sell the V30s and replace them with something else. I'm loving the Weber Legacys with my Retro. I've got the M style, 30oz., 65w versions with 55hz cones. They sound fat and sweet. HUGE HUGE HUGE improvement over the V30s I had before. Not sure if you can get them in the UK, thou...
