TT or OR15; I want a lunchbox amp!

Post by Bensnake » Sun Oct 20, 2013 11:06 am

Still on a honeymoon with the Rocker and still waiting for my OR100 to arrive, I'm considering buying a third Orange amp. For bedroom levels but also to connect to my 412 once or twice just for fun. Which one would you choose if you were in my shoes? Should I go for the OR15 to get the same character as in my big amp or should I go for the classic TT? I love being in Orange land... :D

I had a Tiny Terror, which is a very cool little beast, I used a Maxon OD in front for a more Van HAlen oriented sound, which was cool, but I love the Rocker (coolest name for a amp ever!!!! ) so much I sold it, if I were looking for a lunchbox amp I'd choose the OR15, just the luxuary of having 3 toneknobs is already better than the single toneknob on the TT!

You have a Rocker, an OR100 on the way and you want a TT or OR15, just for fun? Must be nice to be rich. Show off!

I would go with the Tiny Terror if you want a lunchbox amp. The OR15 looks more like a beverage cooler.

Not at all. But I'm past 40, have a good job and feel I can spend some money on my hobby. Sorry if it makes you feel bad.

Thanks. Would you describe the tone of the TT to be similar to the Rocker's?

Well if the TT or OR15 is for home use I would go with the OR15.

I've got both and the OR is way more versatile and rather master volume is really good, the 7/15 watt setting has less effect on the overall tone than the one on the TT as well.

Do they sound like your other Amps?.... Don't have experience with them so can't say.

For bedroom levels, the OR15 won't be anymore practical than the R30. You'll barely be able to turn either on, and they'll sound quite similar (I own both).

I'm gonna go with Dual Terror just because I didn't mention it on the other thread lol...

I just thought the dual terror would offer you more of the 'lunch box' look over an OR15 and if a gigging musician the 30watts might be more practical too.
Paul.

Considering that you have the Rocker 30 and an OR100 on the way, it might make sense to just get a Micro Terror for bedroom use, even though it's more of a "Snack Box". It has a headphone output so you don't even have to connect it to a speaker cab. It's also supposed to sound pretty good through a 4x12 cab when you want more volume.

I tried to use my Tiny Terror for bedroom practice, but it just wants to be played too loudly for that. I have settled for solid-state amplification in the bedroom.

I've considered that option too... It may be a smart (and cheap) way to go.
