Getting fed up of switching between two amps really. Now I've lived with the two for a while I think I prefer the Dark Terror overall.
How does the tone of the TH30 differ from the Dark Terror? I maybe wrongly have it in my head that the TH30 is going to be a 30w Dark Terror with a bonus clean channel. Would I be wrong?

NO. I really bet my TT (as it's set up) sounds better than the TH30. When I played one next to a Thunderverb 50 it sounded like a toy. I wasn't playing loud or anything... it was an overall presence and richness that the TH30 lacked for both channels. Just my two cents. Though, I have no idea what your amps sound like, so what do I know.

I haven't been a fan of the TH30 for my own personal preferences. But I wouldn't call it a toy. Thunderverb isn't a fair comparison for it. If you prefer the tones of your Dark Terror, then yes it is a good choice if you want one amp with a dirty and clean channel. The clean channel is really nice! You'll still have 7 and 15 watt capability if you like that. Is the Dark Terror not the same preamp as the TH30 anyways? I can also tell you the TH30 runs the same transformers, tubes and probably power amp circuit as the Dual Terror.

Yeah, I guess TH30 vs. Thunderverb isn't a fair comparison, but man does the Thunderverb have hugeness. It's not a volume thing. It's something only my ears understand. Sorry to digress.

Thunderverb has a more powerful power section, tubes and all.

if you like both amps, yes.

I am bias against the th30 because I just don't care for it, I feel like it is not a good amp for the price. So IMO no I wouldn't trade 2 for that 1

When I say trade, what I literally mean is taking the OR15 back to the store for a full refund as its under a month old. then getting a th30 with the refund. maybe using the DT as trade in to pay the difference (if I think the TH30 is probably going to do exactly the same job).

The more pertinent question i suppose should be: Is the Dark Terror preamp the same as the TH30 dirty channel preamp? because if it is, to my ears its probably going to sound exactly the same.

I think I'm going to take the OR15 back to to the store whatever happens so it's really a DT vs Dirty TH30 shootout. Take literal value of the items out of the argument.

from what i have been told, the OR15 and DKT are two different beast. why limit yourself to just one amp? get a A/B box that way you can toggle between the two amps, giving you the flexability of two differnt types of sounds from two amps

Because I prefer the dark terror but would like a twin channel amp. This threads purpose is to determine if the Th30 is a 30w amp that sounds a lot like a dark terror.

From what I've read, the Thunder 30 has the dirty preamp from the Rockerverb, only with the shape control from the Thunderverb. I happen to have both schematics of the Rockerverb, and the Dark terror.....same preamp except for the tone stack. So, putting the puzzle together answers that. For what the TH30 is supposed to be, it's a good sounding amp. And for what it's worth, the clean channel is based of the Rockerverb MKl clean channel, so I've read. It's a hybrid Rockerverb/Thunderverb, made in China.

Thanks. That's really helpful. So more like a Jim Root Terror with a Dark Terror EQ. That would give me a better idea because I've demoed the Jim Root when I bought the OR15.

The TH30 is great amp and is allot better than the Dark Terror. I owned the Dark Terror and went to the TH30 and have not looked back. Th30 has more head room more gain and a great clean Rockerverb channel. I play this amp through a Mesa 2x12 closed back cab

save up for what you really want! I dig my tv50, it is the shizzle.

if you need a wall of bass heavy chug, then get used! laney aor 100 is what I would look at.
