i found this free score today!

Post by caldurham » Thu Jun 23, 2016 12:49 am

i found this free score for me today. it was a curbside find. it has got good solid plywood underneath the black tolex and very nice rolling casters that can be removed. i am gonna strip the tolex off and stain the plywood after i get the glue off. i'll possibly replace the grill with some wicker mesh and load it with 2 warehouse guitar speakers 12" veteran 30's. plus i have a 60 watt guitar research tube amp out of a single 12" combo, that doesn't sound bad at all, that i could transfer over to this cab with a little hacking. or i was thinking about just making it an extension cab of sorts with a way to be able to mount my orange micro terror and micro dark. maybe with a way to have them pushing each speaker on its own if i wanted. i dunno just thinking.

cool. I found a Fender Frontman 15w amp last week. Took it home, turned on but no sound. Opened it up and just the input jack needed re-soldering. Works great now. Fun little portable amp.

Must be my lucky week! Although haven't checked my lotto ticket yet. Found this yesterday, powers up but haven't tested it yet.

we used to have an older peavey pa head like that.
and you planning on doing anything with that frontman?

i think the best thing about finding stuff is you're more free to experiment on it without as much fear as if you had bought it.

Not sure wih the Frontman. Might install it in a new cab to upgrade the speaker, just has a crappy 8 inch...hey want to send me that one? Opened the PA up, everything looks clean and no components that look like they've failed physically. Cool little spring reverb tank in there too. Built in 1979.

yeah both of those were a good find. i wouldn't mind having the bassman myself! here is where i am at with the 2x12 cabinet. got the tolex off and got it all sanded down where i want. just got to finish staining it and put some poly on it. i really like the fold pattern the plywood makes. Image

a little update .... here's where i am at with the cab. i think the best thing about refinishing cabs like this is that i don't really worry about making mistakes. And it always seems to come out looking good. I even like the defects in the wood of the cabs i have redone.
