Re: Debut record from my new-ish garage rock band
Thanks Jake! We appreciate it. Definitely going for the early proto-punk thing. This is the first 8 songs we wrote as a band, so we just recorded them live and put it out. Well, vocals are overdubbed and a couple guitar solos but the rest is live. Fun way to record for sure.

Debut record from my new-ish garage rock band
Hey guys, haven't been around much lately. Too busy with two bands, work, and a new girlfriend. Anyways my newer garage rock kinda band called Porno Mags just released our debut record. No Orange on here but figured I'd share anyways. I play guitar and sing tracks 1, 3, 4, 6, and 7. http://pornomags...

Re: Stereo setup worth it?
Is this the only show you plan on playing in your entire life? And do you think your sound guy that you have is going to go to every show you play and ask the house guy to run the board? I mean, in some smaller clubs if you tell them you brought your own sound guy and you aren't a fairly known touri...

Re: Stereo setup worth it?
Well, that's all fine and good at that venue then. I guess my point is if you're playing lots of different clubs I wouldn't rely on always being able to do that. And Billy makes a pretty solid point, in smaller rooms stage sound is a good portion of what the audience is hearing. If you are just play...

Re: Stereo setup worth it?
The sound guy is not going to go for that at any small or medium sized room. You'd need your own paid sound man. Trust me, I can't even get them to let me use an effects pedal for my vocals 99% of the time.

Re: Recording tonight with AD30
I guess my only advice would be if it's garage rock, I might not double guitars too much. Keep is sorta simple and raw, and maybe not use tons of gain, allow some jangle in there. I guess it depends what kind of "garage rock" you mean. Have fun and best of luck in the studio to you!

Re: Bass Amplification Quandary
2x15 cabs are pretty hard to beat IMO. Maybe and Emperor 2x15? One of my bands played a show the other day that had a backline provided by Emperor, and there was a 2x15 our bass player used and it sounded great and had a ton of low end, but was still punchy. I have this old late 70s GK 4412h cab tha...

Re: Ampeg and Queens of the Stone Age ?
I'll expand a bit. The VT-22 and V4 are exactly the same amp. So, in a VT-22 the internal speakers could be ran, and then you could hook up another cab with it. Yep, I found an old ampeg manual and they are dual speaker outs....so I can run it into my 2 orange 4x12's in the 8 ohm setting I guess, b...

They can be ran at the same time. I think maybe two 16ohm cabs would drop the load to 8ohm.

Re: First gig...
Nervousness is a tough one. There's not much way around it except experience and confidence. I've played hundreds of shows in my lifetime and still get butterflies, not like I did years ago, but I still get a tad apprehensive. I have a show tonight and I'm a little nervous, but not too bad. Just pre...
